We go out on Thursday evening before first game, turn on the lights and let them get the feel of things, it has been a year for them and for some it is their first time under the lights.
We cover the whole deal, you can use/do what you like of course. We also tell them such as, "At 6:10 everyone is dressed, taped, straped, capped, and ready to rock!" We may not spend the full time in each session, as I state, during this dry run but we tell them, We will do "X" for 5 minutes, or 3 reps or whatever.
6:10 Specialists leave to stretch, kick, punt, catch, snap, throw, etc. Non-specialists will have last film review and chalktalk, usually o-coordinator and d-coodinator stay.
6:25 Team-up back of the endzone, quick-cals, 10 yard dynamic stretches(lunges, high knees, bear crawls, crab walks, etc) Then team break!
6:40 Offensive individual fundamentals, (c-qb exchange, hand-offs, OL stance/steps punch and drive, WR releases and a couple of routes)
6:45 Defensive individual fundamentals, (DB backpedal & break on ball, break up on run, angle tackle, DL stance, get-offs, shed and angle tackle, LB drops and int, shed block angle tackle)
Everyone goes to 35 yard line, offense huddles on 30 ball on the 20 6:50 1st Offense runs 8-10 plays, situational subs run 2-4 plays
7:00 1st defense, cover base, nickel, goalline, any specials and adjustments to motion/formation, we run a few base plays of the opponents offense with scout players at the skill positions only, toss, ctr, boot, rvs, etc.
7:10 Special teams check, we just line up in the huddle, count heads and cover adjustments verbally, Big team break!
7:15 we are off the field and time for final adjustments, equipment, bathroom, etc.
7:25 Head coach and Captains out, team in the back of the endzone to rush the sideline after the handshakes and coin toss
7:30 KICKOFF! ------------------------------------------------------------------ Then we run a script game scenario. Change it to your needs. Guess you could go live 11 on 11.
KICKOFF team covers
1st defense ball on 35, possession & 10, 2nd & 5, 3rd & 1, 1st & 10, 2nd & 10, 3rd & 10
Punt return
!st offense ball on 35, possession & 10, 2nd & 5, 3rd & 1, 1st & 10, 2nd & 9, 3rd & 8
PUNT coverage
Defense possession and 10, 2nd and 1, offensive penalty, 3rd and 15
PUNT Block for a TD! (sudden change)positive ,we are Up 6-0
PAT failed, (we'll kick a few sometimes but tell them we did not get it)
Onside kick by us, not recovered
Defense, possession and 10, TD pass by opponent (sudden change)negative
PAT defense, they got it (they are up 7-6)
Kickoff return
Halftime, we tell them what happens during halftime, where we go, how long they have to do what, talk about second half adjustments, and then we go through dynamic stretches preparing for 2nd half, and hit the sideline
Onside prevent, we did not recover
2 minute/nickle defense, possession & 10, 2 & 9, 3rd & 8, Opponent TD.
2 PT/ Goalline defense, we hold (they are up 13-6)
Onside prevent, we do recover
2 min offense, (man this has been a quick half, huh?) Possession & 10, 2nd & 6, 3rd & 2, LONG GAIN (HURRY!! KILL THE CLOCK!) Possession and 10, TD! They are up 13-12.
Then we have the PAT team come out whisper in the ear of the kicker to fall to the ground with an ankle injury, OH NO!, we have to go for 2 Points to win the game (our back-up kicker is no good!)
2 PT/ Goalline offense, we score, we win 15-13, team celebration, then we tell them what happens after the game.
Hope this helps, it is a little corny but covers almost everything but safeties I believe, again change it to suit your needs and goodluck!
