Im going into my second year of coaching, and my main goal for the upcoming season is obviously to grow my kids and continue to get better each day, but I also think there are some things I can do to improve our program, and last year was my first year seeing the game from the press box point of view, and I just really want to improve in this area tremendously. Thanks!

First thing I'd ask is what your HC wants you to be doing in the press box. In my experience, if we put a guy in the box he has a specific set of responsibilities. Knowing what those are will help you to focus on getting better at what you need to do.

Knowing what you are supposed to be watching also protects you. I spent a whole year being expected to watch the entire field without any kind of direction and then being asked AFTER the play what the left end had done. So having a clearly assigned zone to watch is key to doing it well.
As for the layout, have one play per row. Columns are Play # prefilled out Drive #, helps to look back and figure out what happened Down Distance Field position
All of these can easily be done presnap.
Run/pass - takes no time to scratch a letter Gain - can calculate after
And then larger columns for the information you specifically are trying to track. Formations, plays, coverages, whatever. I always track our own calls first because it’s hard to do after the fact and I can do it presnap.

If you're wanting a spreadsheet to print out, I believe I have my standard one if you want it.
