How many of you guys use props in your football program as a reward or motive for your players? I’ve been using an axe for the past few seasons, given to the OL with the most cuts/knockdowns (KD’s). Their name gets printed on it and the guy with the most at the end of the season gets to keep it.
I’m considering stealing the “lunch pail” idea from VT and giving it to the guy who practiced the hardest, played through pain, etc.
Anyone else do things like this? I would love some ideas or just general thoughts on the subject

Sledgehammer, painted team colors, name on it every week, most times earned gets to keep it...given for the biggest hit of the week or the guy that played most physically.

We have flags and a sledge hammer that we award Thursday nights at team dinner. One flag is scout team player of the week, if he's a kid that hasn't made varsity yet we sneak into his locker and decal his helmet before dinner and show it to the team. The next flag is for the practice player of the week, usually a varsity player who has put in work all week. Sledgehammer is for the best tackler/hitter/defensive player of the week from Friday night to Wednesday. They lead the team out on Friday night.
I've been looking for an old lunch pail too, but since we already have three I don't think we need it. I have REALLY wanted to get an old school punch clock from an old steel mill to put in the locker room so when they come to practice or meetings they "PUNCH THE CLOCK" and it's time to work... haven't found one, may never find one but I'll always be looking.

We do a sledge hammer for most physical / biggest hit. Pick Axe for anyone who gets a pick. Players sign it and keep it for the week. The player who has the most signatures gets to keep it.
This year, as the OL coach, I'm getting Hog of the Week shirts for my guys. It's program wide and doesn't necessarily mean the best lineman on Friday night. Scout / JV guys have the chance to earn it, or if our FB is busting his tail and was a key part in the run game, he'll have a chance to earn the shirt as well.

We've got a customized baseball bat called "The Hit Stick" that we give to the player with the biggest hit the previous week. They sign it and get to run out of the tunnel with it on Friday. Person with the most names on the Hit Stick gets to keep it.

Also, I give out a "Hawglet of The Week" award to the best blocking skill position player. They get a bottle of syrup that we've spray painted our colors on. Kids love it

I feel like if you're giving away a weekly award it has to be something kind of over the top and ridiculous, but I'm a pretty sarcastic guy.
I've been trying to come up with something good as a weekly award for the OL next year - was thinking a chef's hat or spatula or something for pancakes. Or buy them a weird sheet cake from the grocery store with like a Disney picture on it or something.
Or maybe give away painted cinder blocks or something for block of the week and leave it open to any position.
Basically it has to be funny to me.

I've been thinking about using syrup.
Not really sure what I'll use it for, but I don't think anything bad will happen.

Gotta make sure to award it with the appropriate degree of pomp and circumstance.

Local sponsor (lumber company) provides a 2 x 4. "Hit Stick" (bringing the wood). Defensive player gets it all week. Kind of like the Stanley Cup. Gets to take it anywhere.

We had an OL award that es a sledgehammer wrapped in barbed wire but it tended to just live in one guy’s locker, because our best OL was our best OL.

We give away "The Belt" once a year. It is from ProAm Belts and it is expensive, but we have 10 slots and we engrave the kid's name on it and it is a point of pride. Kids compete their butt off for it. It is heavy duty, well designed, and awesome. When it came in, I had to cut a promo wearing it around my house.
We put the kid's picture up in the weight room and make it a big deal. It involves character, work ethic, commitment, and all those traits you want from your best kid. Our kid's put it in their senior pictures and are really proud of it. Check out ProAm Belts and look at their gallery of Premier Custom Belts. They have some cool stuff.
You'll hear kids talking to each other in the weight room about winning the belt. Its been a great addition. Kids like being immortalized in the program.

One school I was at we had a WWE type championship belt for the winning pride team in weekly competitions. We also had hard hats handed out each week to the individual who practiced the hardest or really had a great week.

We have a hit stick which is a large axe handle for our big hitter from the week before. We have one side we carve a notch in. For each win, and every big hit gets their own notch as well.
Adding the Lunch Pail this year which will go to our best practice player of the week.
