Here's another possible option -- You might want to check out a new computer. I just quickly put together a brand new Dell desktop speced for digital editing. Plenty of power and enough disk storage for a full season/40+ full games (320GB), Firewire port, separate graphics card, free shipping, free upgrade to Vista, etc. You'd just have to add an existing monitor and add in another $119. The total was $619.

Can you directly copy from a Digital camera via firewire, or do you need to start with a DVD for the original?

Digital cameras/camcorders transfer directly to computer disk via Firewire. The format on the tape and computer is raw DV(Digital Video). It's very large - about 13GB for an hour. DVD's use a compression routine (ie a codec) called MPEG-2 and have their own naming conventions (.vob, .iso, etc) It typically reduces the size by about 5 to 1. This file reduction was originally needed by the movie industry to fit a compete 1.5-2 hour movie on one 4GB DVD disk. btw - This conversion process is fairly intensive and timeconsuming. Can you directly copy from a Digital camera via firewire, or do you need to start with a DVD for the original?

Mav, I posted during the summer that I was going to build a duplicator and hand out copies of our upcoming games to our players. The whole duplicator only consists of 1. a case 2. a controller card 3. dvd drives
It was a very easy process. I decided to build a 9 bay duplicator because the price diference was only about 60 dollars.(The cost of the 2 extra dvd drives)
My players are attending a College Recruiting night as we speak. I copied 10 dvd's for each of my 8 seniors last night. The whole process took less than an hour.

If you are looking for something to transfer directly from a DV camcorder to DVD I have this thing from sony called DVDirect. You hook it up via firewire or the RCA cables from your camera and it puts it onto DVD (in realtime meaning it has to play the whole game on your camera) but is really simple and not too expensive. Its 200 bucks. no editing capabilities really but great for simple camcorder to dvd transfer

Yes, I remember your posts about building it. Have had it in the back of my mind since you posted it last summer. Coach Geiser,
Do you have an online resource for the Case, I am assuming its a server case ? Also do you have any tips on the controller card, specs, etc.
Thanks
