You require members to use their real name, and where they coach youll see alot fewer keyboard hard a$$es It wont completely stop the problem, egos will always abound, and some people will undoubtedly leave, but if youre honest you have nothing to worry about Hell in some cases find guys who start the most $hit arent even coaching, or have ever coached I own 3 boards myself, the only one weve ever had squabbles on (as few as they were) was the one i lifted the screen name rule Ill gladly change mine back to my old screen name , post where and what i coach One thing I like about this site is that it is anonymous. Foremost, I can post about situations I have been in without concern of it coming back to bite me. But more relevant to the topic is that keeping it anonymous allows us to judge ideas on their validity as opposed to who said it. You really want it to become a !@#$ meassuring contest, then force everyone to state their name and experience. Every discussion or disagreement will be ended with the trump card of success- in essence whoever has the best resume is right in all discussions. I have coached with guys who coached in the league, guys who have been d1 coordinators, and guys who are in various hofs...they are as wrong as the rest of us. Yeah I get that in terms of past experience, I still think you can without naming names so to speak , weve all been in bad experiences (most of us) As for a contest, Im not so sure it would be, I think you'd only see that from the very type of guys were already describing, id venture to say that most here 1) could care less about someones record, especially if they're a good guy, 2) are here to either learn or contribute themselves. Its a double edged sword

I wonder if this is the reason "chats" on twitter ie #hogfbchat, #txhsfbchat in my experience are very positive environments compared to forums in general? Can't really hide yourself as easily on twitter, especially if your players, parents, and fellow coaching staff are following your feed.
I started out coaching youth ball and have now "graduated" to coaching on varsity. The same "tone" issues were on dumcoach.com from time to time.
Maybe, I can only speak for what I've seen on my own. Is rarely a guy who uses his own real name who starts meaningless arguments , there are some, but its rare .

Thank you for dedicating an entire thread to me. Fairly certain you are not the central point of this thread coach. If he is I find it funny. A ton of people PM him constantly for help/advice/to learn. People on here have his number and talk to him frequently. There are people on here who are saying how bad it is to have this tone but they are the ones I see do it all the time. I know I have probably been guilty before as well (I apologize if so). Anders is a good dude who knows football. Anyone who has talked with him or met him will agree with that. He is blunt on here and says what he believes (and it has helped a lot of people, me included). Most of us came here to learn and its hard to say that he has not helped people do that. I know he has also learned a lot from some on this board as well. This board is a great resource for that and I know far more than I would have known without this board and feel it has made me a better coach.

I have been guilty of getting snippy over threads at times but it's usually over threads on touchy subjects that I know I should stay away from. Or, it's because I don't recognize that there is no voice tone over these threads and a short response may come across as rude when it's just, well, short.
I think we all have to remember that there is a wide scope of experience on this site and that can lead to bickering. I know that I get aggravated at times when a "_____ University Spread Offense" thread pops up but I have learned to stop and recognize that the thread is probably being started by someone who is inexperienced. So, I either avoid the thread or provide some proactive feedback. And, folks need to realize that everyone's coaching situation is different. Coaching in a small school that doesn't platoon really does put a limit on what we can install on offense and defense. We'd love to be able to install all of Saban's matching concepts on defense or MSU'S quarters look but we just don't have the time.
I will say this, I believe the bickering is a fraction of what it used to be on this site. I remember when it seemed like every third thread was being closed because folks were fighting. And, it wasn't just miscommunication causing fights; it was blatant disrespect. So, I feel it has improved from that aspect. I was bummed when the interactive whiteboard was taken down until I was reminded that most sessions on it turned into hours-long chalk wars with all kinds of fighting.

I should probably change my screen name, to be honest. After what happened to DCOhio and all Only heard little about that situation, railroaded because of here, I beleive ? Yeah. He took a job as DC at Massillon, OH. Some fanboy loser who wanted to be the Colin Cowherd of Massillon wanted him fired. He cyberstalked DCOhio to here, then dug up some old posts of his where he'd cracked jokes and said the things that made us love DC, then pulled them out of context to feed his witch hunt. I'm not sure if he's still there or if he moved on, but he deleted his account on here because of it and had to answer to them about the BS. It's a shame.

Some folks have posted about anonymity on this thread and DC's situation is a good learning lesson. I know several folks I have coached/taught with know what my handle is on this site and I am careful of what I post when it comes to sensitive information.

I've thought long and hard about getting a new handle on here because of that stuff, as well, and may still get one soon. I've been pretty candid on here about stuff in the past and I've posted on here way too much. DC should be a major cautionary tale to us all. While we're on the topic, I want to take this opportunity to apologize to any coaches I've ever inadvertently gotten into a pissing contest with. I post on here too much and I know that can come off as "know-it-all" in print, but that's never been intentional. Sometimes when you ask a question on here or make a joke, it comes across very differently in print to the guy reading it. For example (NSFW warning):

Is it me or do a lot of threads lately seem to turn into arguments? I also know there is a difference between debate done in a professional way, and when it gets sarcastic and personal. Comments questioning somebody's intelligence or ability to read don't really have a place here. Yesterday on spring break (which is Minnesota is funny because we have INCHES of snow and more coming) I met with a couple other coaches from different schools. We all have different philosophies but yet we all learned from each other and we never insulted each other. So maybe before you type that snarky remark think "would I say that if we were all in the same room at the white board?" I am not Mr. Sensitivity. But what I loathe is when I login to start reading an otherwise really good thread and it turns into a bitch session between two coaches. I couldn't care less about feelings but it detracts from the message when we start to insult one another on the board. tbh I always thought coaches should be able to say whatever they want within some reason and as long as they stay on topic....no cursing no threatening no name calling...but other than that who cares say whatever you have to say.....just my opinion...

So, at the click of a button, he could not only see what website an employee was on but also what they were typing while on it. It was ridiculous as there hadn't been any issues with staff doing anything out of line over the web.

Nope, when I first started teaching, I went to the bathroom before school started and left my door unlocked as I was going to be gone for 10 minutes, max. I got back and the music video for Robin Thicke's song "Blurred Lines" was up on YouTube. Three kids had gone behind my desk and were watching it. Anyone that has seen that music video knows the world of chit I was in over that. I had the principal pull up the camera from the hallway showing that I wasn't in my room when the video was being played.

In regards to the original point of 'tone, attitude, and argumentative posts'. If someone is posting like that, just ignore them.
In the end we are all grown men, and no offense to any of you but all you are to me are just people on the internet, I could give a ish what kind of tone you take with me or your opinion of what I write is (and I hope you feel the same about me).
We are all just a bunch of keyboard jockeys here, and as long as that is the case (and it doesnt impact my job or my family) take whatever tone you want. We are all just here to exchange information related to our profession; nobody is going to win the internet. Lets not act like our players in regards to stuff somebody said online.

I normally lock my door and turn off my computer when I leave the room to avoid any issues. But, I literally walked four doors down, took a leak, washed my hands, and stopped to say hello to the teacher next door to me. Now, I log off of my computer if I'm just out monitoring the hallways between classes.
