Your season ends very early. It does. Scheduling conflict with venue. Season should be two weeks longer next year. Boys finished 19-8. Girls 24-2.

Damn. They would have been even better if their weight lifting wouldn't have messed with their shot all year.

Congrats dad!
A few years ago our boys went to state and girls won it. I was the shot clock keeper and got paid by the game. Life was sweet!

Damn. They would have been even better if their weight lifting wouldn't have messed with their shot all year. Boys MVP played football for the first time this year. Increased his bench 75 pounds in a year. Squats over 150 and deadlift 150. Really messed him up. He only scored 29 in state championship game. He is a lights out three point shooter and can shoot from downtown! Best thing is that he is now a college football prospect.

Congrats Silk!
Unfortunately, we grow midgets where I'm at, so I don't foresee us doing the same, even with strong lifting numbers from both boys and girls. Our wrestling program is pretty stout though!!

Wait...so you're telling my that lifting weights can actually help you in the game of basketball?? No way...science says it will slow me down, negatively affect my dunk package, AND mess up my jump shot! You crazy coach...
But seriously, congrats! That is awesome and definitely a proud dad moment to cherish!

negatively affect my dunk package Initially read this as "my junk package." Took about 3 re-reads to get it right in my brain.

Damn. They would have been even better if their weight lifting wouldn't have messed with their shot all year. Y’all are going to love this and I am going to post this in a new thread. The state boys basketball final mvp just won his weight class powerlifting state championship! He won all three lifts and won his weight class by 110 pounds! This kid can really play basketball. He can really shoot, but is the quickest bball player I have ever seen in high school and is explosive. There was a guy we played 13 years ago at a different school. Unreal athlete and quickest kid I had ever seen. He is still playing cornerback in the NFL. Do you know what kind of athlete you have to be a starting corner in the NFL? Anyways, our kid is quicker and more explosive than him in basketball. He scored 47 in a game, and over 30 three more times and scored 29 in state championship game. Here is the best part. We go weigh-in this morning and go to breakfast before the weight meet starts. He says, “those sophomores got to start working harder in the weight room and getting stronger if we are going to be good in basketball next year.” Wow. Give that to your bball players and coaches!

Sounds like that basketball coach has built one hell of a culture there Actually, he is brand new since September. But helps that he has coached in the SEC and ACC for twenty years and that his dad is a legend. Also helps that he is on the guys about getting stronger. Our baseball coach is the same way. Played in minors for 9 years and knows the importance of weight lifting. Funny how the guys that have actually been there and done that, want the kids to get stronger and the "wanna be" bball and baseball coaches don't like it. That being said, I am flexible with these guys and we do workouts, not wearouts!

Pretty cool when you have Barry Sanderson and John Copeland as boys coaches and Wimp and Scott in the corner cheering on the team. Plus we had the Alabama women coaches, Kristy Curry and her husband Kelly, there and Alabama assistant John Pelphrey cheering us on also because their daughters play with my daughter on the girls team. Saban’s daughter went here along with a lot of Bama assistant coaches’ kids. Hoping whoever they hire as d line coach has a teenage son or two!! Pretty special place. I am very fortunate.

Our Head of School (Who was our head football coach from 2009-2015) was at ACA before he moved up here. He had the same kind of thing when he was down there. Lots of coaches kids and really talented athletes. Saw tape of some of them in his last few years there, I remember Mark Gottfried's kid was a beast of a wide receiver.
