What do you look at or focus on when watching the TV version of a game? Or do you watch that version?

Have fun and watch the game. If it is something you think you might want to study later - record it.

Can't really see chit besides the OL/DL, QB, and sometimes RB.
Sit back and enjoy.

DVR - have a notepad next to you and make quick notes to go back and look at items that are of interest to you. During the broadcast of the game, enjoy or go back during a commercial. Notepad is the best. Have one by the bed as well if I have a thought or something while I am sleeping.

I may rewind some stuff if I see something interesting, but for the most part I just watch for entertainment when watching on TV.
One thing I will pay attention to is the game management things like clock management, kicking vs going for it on 4th, that type of stuff. I think watching on TV is a good way to practice that sort of thing in your head without distracting from the entertainment value.

While hard to see what happens in the secondary, it’s a good chance to watch some of the line play, especially the few moments they show the tite shots. I would say watch the game and then see if you can find all - 22 or tite film if you’re interested after watching the game.

I look at formations for play tips/tendencies. It’s pretty amazing how obvious some stuff feels.

Like most said, I just sit back and become a fan. Naturally, I question every call the OC and DC make. I challenge the integrity of the staff for playing players of a certain race over other players of other races. I make sure to yell "Stop running the same play!" every chance I get. Oh wait ... That just happens on Friday nights.

We have to take a minute to step back and just enjoy the game. Can't always be in "coach mode" sure I watch the OL to see what play it's going to be but that's just habit. Enjoy the game, cheer, boo, drink beer.

I used to try to figure everything out but drove myself insane because of the camera work that isn’t coach-friendly, now I look at the formation and try to identify the front and run concepts as well as formations and personnel. If it’s a big game, I’ll actually pull out my phone and read some of the Twitter coaches’ commentary. James Light and James Vint have some really good stuff.

Just watch it, I'll get the All-22 version fast enough if it's a team I want to study.

watching the game to enjoy the game feels like you're always a step behind the action. I find watching the the 5-10 seconds before the play and 2 seconds after the snap as the only real intriguing aspects of a broadcast I wrote about my personal approach to watching games here -> brophyfootball.blogspot.com/2015/11/coup-dil.htmlbut it really just boils down to going through the formation, splits, fronts, shell, see who's covered, where is the inherent leverage advantage (will that be used), who will be the force players, fill in the fits from there.... what is at risk? how many possessions left in the game? how much time does the current drive need to use? etc I suppose its just like counting cards, because its just probabilities you're playing to determine what hand is going to be played. Like I said, the real excitement is already knowing what is going to happen. More times than not, the actual ACTION is what is disappointing because what you will see is a lack of execution, {censored} effort, missed tackles, etc that it makes you wonder WHY you are watching it in the first place. I DO NOT mean to bemoan the game at all; the game is pure. I am not intending to bbitch about the product of "TV football" as it has become rather fashionable to do so. That said, I believe this clip captures exactly why it is difficult to swallow or be 'entertained' by it anymore

A lot of the times I just watch the game just to sit back and enjoy the experience. If it's a team or system I'm interested in I take notes during the broadcast as well as DVR the game so I can go back and rewatch it. It's hard with the camera views to see what you want though. I like watching the OL play from the tight so very rarely do we get that look besides maybe a replay.
Side note...I rarely watch the NFL for pleasure. I'm more of a college fan, but to each their own.

I focus on making sure the bottle of rum is sufficiently chilled, I have plenty of ice, and my mix-du-jour is fully stocked. I work WAY too hard at football 5 days a week to work on the weekends. I follow the ball, I half pay attention, I listen to Tony Romo, and I make sure I do nothing but enjoy watching my favorite game!!
And halfway thru the bottle I start to demean and deride the moronic coordinators on the losing team, as well as every 2-minute decision by the HC
