Just wondering what everybody wears for shoes when playing on artificial field turf?
We had several severe ankle injury's last year, all occurring while playing on turf. Not sure if it was a freak thing, or if wrong shoes were being worn, or if there was something we should be doing (stretching etc) to better prepare for these conditions.
Anybody have insight. The injury's ranged from severe ankle break to major sprains.

What kind of turf? Field Turf will be different from Astroturf.

If it's field-turf, then just wear normal cleats (plastic). If it's astroturf....Get a Rich person to donate some money and get that crap outta there. ASTROTURF is the worst idea ever.

Astroturf hurts!!! But if you have the new field turf, regular cleats should be fine.

we play one game a year on field turf, plus our team camp is on field turf and our kids wear their regular shoes.

It's field turf. We will play 8 out of 9 games this season on the stuff. One of our asst. coaches seems to think kids need to buy turf shoes, like to pros wear, and I'm hearing a lot of moaning and groaning by parents who aren't so excited about spending another $50-$100 for another pair of football shoes. We will play on turf, but practice maybe one day a week on it. thanks for your input.

Best cleats imho on the field turf is the soft rubber cleats. If they dont have soft rubber cleats..wear regular athletic shoes.

I agree, no need for special turf shoes, normal cleats work just fine. It takes a bit of getting used to. If you have some kids slipping on their cuts, it's probably not the shoe, but the fact that they aren't used to the turf. Same thing happens when schools practice on turf all year then have to play on grass.

Our home field is field turf and we practice on it every day. All our kids wear normal cleats. We've never had a problem. On the other hand, regular tennis shoes results in a lot of slippage.
