How are some of you guys not out there? In Northern CA, we play the anthem immediately before kickoff. Is that not the case in your areas? We don't make it a point to be out there, we just have no choice. Ours is played around 7:23, we don't come out the locker room to around 7:27... Run straight to the field. If that’s the case, we would never make it either. So, if they play it at 7:23 and you’re on the field, are you supposed to be done with all pre game and everything by then? For most teams here, if you don’t go in the locker room before the game, you do pre game all the way up to the anthem.

This isn't about political debate, just a simple question...I'm catching flak from some parents because we aren't always out on the field when the anthem is played by bands. I reached out to several coaches I know and they are all the same, rarely out in time for it. Is this common? Being a military school we make it a point.

We are usually off the field around 7:10 to go back in the locker room, but if we were out there we would stop at attention

Here is what we have worked out with AD and band at home games...Both teams know the schedule and we are always out at home games..most of the time visitors are as well. 6:40- cheerleaders announced 6:45- both teams leave the field for the band- there is an area teams can go to if they need more time to warm up 6:52- We enter field- down the 50 yard line and form lines on our sideline 6:54- Visitor enters field 6:55- anthem is played 6:57- teams announced 7:00- KO

We stay inside. There is a definite possibility that some of our guys would kneel but we're in an area with a lot of military so that might not go over so well. There was a local team whose players knelt and it made national news. That is NOT the reason that we want to be on national TV.

That is NOT the reason that we want to be on national TV. 1st we are about as pasty white as any team in the nation, however we have seen our fair share of protests over the last 18 months however: We had a team meeting and we unanimously agreed that if any player wanted to draw attention to an issue the entire team would take part: 1. It would not happen at a game, practice or team function 2. we would contact news agencies and arrange for coverage 3. we agreed to behavior guidelines (this was written up and presented by our seniors) 4. the activity would be on state capital grounds Never had anything happen but it was a solid team building experience.

I never have been high school, college, or coaching now. We always go to back the locker room after warm ups, the band does their thing, and then we come out to the fight song. Mostly, the kids don't know what to do with that time. They sit there swaying, moving, and worst of all thinking about things other than the game. We want them to be totally focused be for the game kicks off.
