The thing in this game you want to learn the most?
I want to learn secondary play because that is my weakest area.

quarterback and OL play...I don't think I can learn enough about it
That, and also having a fail-safe special teams package that I feel real confident in.

Besides the obvious - how to better reach my kids on a heart level rather than a head level - I'd like to learn more about D-Line technique. Being fast and physical without being washed out of the play.

I want to become stronger at the Xs and Os of the game. Sometimes I feel lost at our meetings and need the other coaches to give me an idea of what they want out of the kids.....

I just want to improve my overall knowledge focusing on the secondary and running backs, since I was a ol/dl when I played.

improve and organize our terms and vocab for all offensive positions and offense and defense.
Right now our defensive staff and offensive staffs have used different terms for gaps, alignments etc... need to get everyone on the same page.

more about kickers and punters since very few coaches I know know alot about the techinquie these players need and I think this would help my team if I could help coach these players.
I also want a better understanding of X's and O's and QB desicion making.

Well I want to learn as much as possible about the secondary, especially since it is my weakest area and we are coming up on our season in Feb and know very little about secondary!

Now, this might be an odd question, but how do you learn?
Right now, I just study playbooks I find, read football coaching books (bios and technical),study game film and talk to anyone who will talk football with me, any others?

1. Vertical Passing Route Packages 2. QB Techniques
As far as how do we learn. I tend to watch a lot of clinic tapes, look at playbooks, ask questions on here and other message boards. When I have something specific that I am looking for I try to find someone who does it well and talk through it with them.

I want to learn how to turn Jimmies ...
Into Joes...
How do I learn? Books are best for me... tape comes second... clinics third... and discussion board arguments, complete the philosophies.

I tend to learn the best through books and by talking to people. Also I will be going to my first coaching clinics this year and hope to learn through that. I will also look at some playbooks this off-season.

I would like to learn more on the Spread Offense, and I have learned a lot from reading the threads on here. I ran the D/W before so I am still learning about the spread and I always am willing to learn more. I am a visual learner - I need to see it to really understand it. That being said, I like to read things and I have a lot of books, clinic notes and the like, but there is nothing like going to a practice and seeing how other coaches implement things. Coachjblair - I'm certain that after you go to a good clinic - you will go back. There is just a wealth of information there for you to pick and choose from, and you always can talk to a coach on the side. That is the thing I enjoy the most out of the clinics, the interaction with other coaches. They always seem willing to talk and help out - especially if you buy them a beer.

How to solidly teach the fundamentals. To drill those things until they are perfect. I see a lot of teams that play that way and we constanly do better, but I would like to be fundamentally sounder (if that is a word).

Since I'm only a 3rd year coach..EVERYTHING!
But my next focus is how coverages work, what they are supposed to do, what they can not do, what you can and can not do against certain coverages, how to change routes to beat coverages, so on and so forth..
I just finished reading Education of a Coach, a book about Bill Belichick. One of the biggest things to stand out to me is the way he got so good on defense was to become so knowledgable on Offense. He made a reference to how he couldn't understand coaches who only want to master one side of the ball. Sounds simple enough, but its a mistake I found myself making on wanting to learn more about offense, I only focused on offense. I need to learn more about the defenses I am trying to exploit.

Coach Watters I agree, how can you defend if you dont understand the attack..how can you attack if you dont understand the defense? i too think you need to study and master both sides of the ball.
