I have been at this school since Christmas of last year. Small school. We go through spring ball with the JR High, (we opted to get the extra week during the fall) get about 22 kids out for the JR high football team. At this point in my tenure here, I started to notice small issues with things like organization, and overall respect with our head coach. Like, kids over here say things to the head coach that i would never dream of saying. I have them respecting me, yes sir no sir, so on. We get to summer workouts, and now I see huge disorganization. Our first day, we had like 8 kids. I was astonished. It goes this way all summer. It wasn't the same 8 kids, but thats what we averaged. Our HC acts like this is just the way it is out here. Finally now, here we are starting fall camp, and we have anywhere from 9-15 kids showing up. We had a great day yesterday, and this morning I couldn't run a practice. I am so outraged, because theres no attempt by our HC to do anything to kids at all.
Guys help me out, I do not want to jump ship. We have a new Principal who wants me to weather the storm for her because she recognizes the issues as well, and if I leave the program may completely fall apart.

Is this a Jr high team you're asking about?? Not much you can do if the HC is the way you describe. Maybe, ask him if you can help with some of the organization problems you didn't describe. I know a lot of guys who are disorganized that would love help with that stuff. Other than that just coach your a$$ off, do what the HC wants and decide whether or not to stay at the end of the season.

I have to echo what was said above. If the HC won't do anything about it there's nothing that you can do. Just put your head down and do your job. At the end of the season you can make a decision.

I thought you were putting in the Peyton Manning offense in?
If you're not the head coach, bring these issues up to him. He'll have to be the one to address them. Don't go behind his back telling everyone in the building how bad it is.

I have been in a very similar situation as you described, where we had more coaches than players at some summer practices, it was ridiculous! Glad I got out ASAP once I realized that there was too many negative variables working against me that had nothing to do with football that I could not control/help improve. Of course I didn't realize that at the time but looking back and knowing what I know now, I would never have done it again because it is a losing battle. There are plenty of other coaching options with way better support.

Like Phantom said theres not much you can do other than doing the best job you can with them. Whether or not you choose to leave however, is something you have to sit down and think about Can you live with another three possibly four months of this going on particularly if you're having a bad season in which the pressures are greater throughout the program If you can weather the storm then just do the best job you can and reevaluate at the end of the season however when there are personal issues amongst staff everything else seems to magnify Its not an easy call at all It's a good thing however that the administration knows that you are an intrical part in keeping that team together that may help you down the road if that's any consolation

Most small school JH programs don't do work in the offseason......just show up and play.

Most small school JH programs don't do work in the offseason......just show up and play. I'd have a hard time holding that against kids that can't drive or bum a ride from a friend. Once school starts and the numbers don't improve, then you have an issue.
