I just was reading the st. cloud state is leaving the North Central confrence for the Northern sun confrence. why is SCS leaving the NCC? The NCC has more scholarships and at one time was the power d 2 confrence when they had ND, NDSU and the likes.
just curious.

The NCC is disbanding. UND and USD have announced that they are moving up to division I so they are left with too few teams. All the NCC teams left are applying for membership into the NSIC. The current NCC teams are stuck between a rock and a hard place since half the conference has moved up to DI in the last 5 years. They either had to move up to DI as well or try to find a new conference with the NSIC making the most sense.

NCC was a 36 scholarship confrence and the NSIC is only a 26. I am not sure if all the NSIC schools are at 26. winona state is i know. be interseting if you have SCS, Nebraska Omaha, UMD, Min State added to a confrence. uno did will in the playoffs. I am sure it will be broken down into two divisions. wonder if teams are going to leave the NSIC. Concordia st. paul(I attended this fine christian instituation for 2 yrs) is going to have a hard time with the bigger state schools. are you sure North Dakota is going D1? Last time I talked with coach lennon they were still on the fence. They are D1 in Hockey and one of the top programs annual. 7 national championships as well. could be interesting. at least the UND vs NDSU would be back on.

UNO is leaving the conf. as well. They are joining the Missouri and Kansas conf. Augistana, St. Cloud, U of M Duluth and Mankato have all applied for the NSIC. From what everyone is saying the 4 schools will have to go down to 26 scholorships. None of the 4 were at 36, but SCSU, Mankato and Duluth were all around 30-32. The Univ. of Mary in Bismarck, ND is the only school in the league right now at 26. Winona is close.

what about northern state?
I know the NSIC had a hard time with the WIAC in the NSIC vs WIAC at the metrodome. Here I thought they all had scholarships close to 20.

Northern is around 15-17 plus or minus a few. I used to coach at Northern 92-95. WIAC games were always fun.

Guess I was wrong about Northern. Found this info in the SC times webpage.
Football scholarships Posted: Dec 15, 2006 at 12:52 PM
The Times published a story on Wednesday about how the NSIC's limits would force St. Cloud State to cut scholarship levels from 30 to 24.
For reference, here's a list of current scholarship levels among NCC teams likely to join the NSIC and current NSIC teams:
NCC
Minnesota-Duluth: 27
St. Cloud State: 27-28
Minnesota State-Mankato: 36
Augustana: between 30 and 32
NSIC
Bemidji State: 13.4
Concordia-St. Paul: 12.63
Minnesota-Crookston: 11.7
Minnesota State-Moorhead: 8.44
Northern State: 12.58
Southwest Minnesota State: 12.2
Wayne (Neb.) State: 18.5
Winona State: 17.66
Upper Iowa: 15.03
Mary: 25.08
The NSIC numbers were obtained from a report from Minnesota-Crookston; the NCC numbers were obtained either directly from athletic directors or from newspaper stories.

I doubt it will happen do to the cost of scholarships. the wisconsin system would rather put their money elsewhere, like at the U of Wisconsin. is that for oklahoma qb father still the head coach at northern state? I know he used to miss games to see his son play at OU.

From a former Beaver--hell of a job Bemidji State. That coaching staff has worked extremely hard to get that program turned around. Nice to see them reach the top of the hill this season.
