Coaches. I am a young coach it was my first year at my school I was a line coach. I really like the head coach and the staff that I work with I have learned alot. Our head coach it was his first head coaching job and his 4 year at the school he also coached at some very repected schools in our area. However the school district is very much biased to there other programs such as band and basketball, it seems they could care less about the football program. The school district and AD have decided to let him go even though he is very good for the kids and knows the game VERY well. Me personaly like the kids we have and I dont have a problem with the school myself however I do not teach there so I really dont know what goes on there. My question is should I loyal to my staff and head coach and go were they go, should I find another job else were, or should I stay at the school and help out the staff that comes in ?

Find out if they want you back, or let the new guy hire his own staff.

I would go with the staff in a heartbeat. Working with great guys can make a job at a "bad" school good, while working with a group of guys you don't get along with will be a terrible experience no matter how much support the school gives you. Just my 2 cents.

I would go with the staff. In most cases kids are kids and all programs have good ones that you will love to coach and a knucklehead or two that you wish would play soccer. You will probably love the kids where ever you land. That's why we coach, we're in the kid business.

If the school is going to treat the current head coach this way, it's a pretty safe bet that they will do the same to the next guy as soon as things don't go the way they expect them. Trust the guys you CAN trust!

Stick with the guys you know. I was with a school this year that won it all, but I only made it through half the season. First time I've ever left a team in 30 years. Came on late due to an unexpected opening and found out why as time passed. Head coach belittled coaches and players unmercifully. I didn't agree with it, others just shrugged it off. Could have gutted it out, but my integrity wouldn't let me. Missed the kids, happy for them, but do not regret leaving.

Go With The Staff!
Be loyal to THE people that are loyal to you and care about the kids and the game. Schools today, for the most part, are not going to be loyal to you or anyone else.

Be loyal to your staff, after all the root word for administator is "traitor"

Definately follow the staff. Coaching with people you already know, know how to work with, and have a relationship with cannot be underestimated. In my opinion, what makes any job enjoyable is the people you work with. If you have found a group of coaches that makes the job just a little more bearable during the 10th hour in the office, I wouldn't leave it.

ALWAY go with people. Not buildings or the administrators who manage those building. If your HC did nothing unethical and he was working to benefit young people, you need to side up with him but DO NOT burn bridges. I've been a HC who was burned by a vindictive administrator after back to back 8-2 seasons. My guys stayed true and we are now set up at another HS with excellent support. The boys in your band is all you have sometimes.

Yup- go with the staff. Especially if you feel that the current head coach is getting the sh-- end of the stick. Coaching with a group of guys you like is great- one of the best things about coaching. In the flip side, coaching in an indifferent or negative staff environment is one of the worst parts of coaching ball.

Stay with the people that you can trust, and in most cases that is the staff that you are working with.

Its been said a million times already... but if it hasn't hit home yet... then reverse the question...
Your current school has great kids, but you can't stand the staff... HC is a head case, assistants are on ego trips... do you stay for the kids, or go for your sanity...
Stay with your staff and enjoy your coaching career... its just as short as life!

go with the staff, especially if you are not a teacher in the building.

this all depends on whether the staff wants you to come with them - titles are one thing, but working with a great staff that gets along and has some fun is priceless - the real question is your personal happiness - will you be happy staying at your present school or would you be more happy to go with the staff somewhere else - whether or not you are married or not and whether or not you have kids also plays into this decision - good luck!
playin' it cool - Luke
