How does everyone breakdown their offensive practice during the week?
What segments do you use during your practices?
Some of the segments we use (like must of you) are Individual, Pass Skell, Inside Run, Screen Period, Option Period, Blitz Period, Team Period.
We do certain ones everyday like individual and team and some at least once a week.

something to look at .....
the amount of "indy" time your QB's get.
we probably get the least TRUE indy time of all positions. not to say we get the least fundamental work .. opposite is true. however, they must work in some type of group setting with the backs (hand-off/mesh-points/timing), recievers (routes), OL (blitz pick-up) plus be involved in both hull groups.
other than true fundamentals work (which most of is done in winter/spring) most stuff is thrown to receivers. no sense throwing to other qb's. my take, if we are working specific throws, we will work them with receivers

one of our dilemmas huey
getting the qb's some mechanics work
but
we have built into practice 1. bubble 2. hitches 3. slants
every single day no matter what
so, they should be fixing the mechanics on the run

We have QB drills our QBs can do with themselves, along with drops and footwork drills. Often receivers are doing stance and starts or blocking drills during this time. I'm pretty obsessive about footwork. I always think about what terrible footwork a lot of QBs and particularly gun QBs have (but then if they beat me I guess I can't say "hey our guys had great footwork!" haha)

Our QB's get the least amount of indy time also. They only get 10 minutes a week of it during the season. But we try and use our settle & noose time everyday to help with footwork, and we make them call out progressions as we run this drill. We have to use our run group time to work their handoffs and run game footwork.
I am also lucky enough to have a QB coach. He job is to watch drops, footwork, throwing technique, fakes, etc.. As head coach and OC, my job is watch their progressions and the team concept.

a typical workout for the qb's might be:
10 minutes of "play polish" with the backs - handoffs, meshes, etc. 10 minutes of indy - warmup, 1 specific thing such as footwork or throwing a "2-ball" 10 minutes of quick game work with receivers 15 minutes of "route perfection" with receivers - working individual routes on air such as post or curl, etc. 10 minutes of 1 on 1 with receivers vs db's 20 minutes of run hull & pass hull - qb's split time between each 15 minutes of team
we do 20 minutes of special teams at the beginning of each practice so we do much of our technique work then. receivers (not involved in specialty) will do likewise, as will all players. if not involved in that day's special teams it's another long period of indy

We use our secial teams period which is also 20 minutes everyday for the OLine and Dline to use for indy because they are not involved in ST. QB's get snaps for 5 minutes with C and then they will go thru our warm up progression.
After practice the QB's and WR will throw for 10 extra minutes.

We usually start with some team "perfect play" which are plays we just installed during camp or plays that we are looking to use against a specific team. Then we go to about 15 min. of special teams and this is where we get the receivers, RBs, and QBs do grip work. Also, the QBs will do a lot of their footwork drills during this time. For us, we have the QBs working all practice, making sure they maintain good footwork and throwing motion, as well as knowing their [and other players'] assignments.
So, they get about 10-20 minutes of indy time depedning on what special teams is being done [we do PAT/FG every day and then work on the other teams throughout the week]. Then we have either "run polish" for 10 mins w/ the RBs to work on mesh point and steps for the run game. Then the QBs may get some more time w/ indy depedning on what the TEs and WRs are doing. And of course there will be the drills w/ WRs and TEs, then skelly with a QB or 2 doing inside run [during the season it would be our "scout team" guys, then team.
Our centers and QBs do 10-15 minutes of C-QB exchange before practice.
To me, it seems that the QBs need to be able to go off on their own with a coach and do their drills during time which they are not needed [SPECIAL TEAMS]. During drills everything is done fast and precise... we want to keep them going at a good pace for the entire practice.

I have been toying with the idea of make QB indy time extra. I don't know about you guys but I always seem to have a couple of kids who want to play QB but can't do it, or won't put in the time. Do you think making it an extra would deter some of that?
