Hey guys,
Our head coach is big on each position coach coming up with a one sentence philosophy for the guys he coaches. Some of the ones in the past, for instance, are...
for wide receivers: catch every ball, make every block
for d lineman: penetrate, swarm, tackle
I like the idea, personally. I coach offensive line and want to call my guys The Beast, which will be an acronym for
ESTABLISHING ATTITUDE SPEED AND TEMPO
However, I obviously don't have anything great for the "B". I have thought of a few things, including badasses, bangers, bashers, etc., but I think they are weak. I am looking for any other ideas for the B in the name...thoughts?

BROTHERS as in we are all Brothers (...We few, we happy few, we Band of Brothers) not necessarily "Brothas"

BROTHERS as in we are all Brothers (...We few, we happy few, we Band of Brothers) not necessarily "Brothas" Brothers is a good one, and makes sense.

we had a motto we rallied around on defense...
GATA
Get After Their A--
we did do position specific write ups, though, i think this only helped define roles for coaches, more than the kids....who really never bothered themselves with the 'definition'.

The brothers one is good. I would love to print up t-shirts for my o-lineman with THE BEAST on it and the acronym underneath and maybe some cool imagery. As a new staff, might be a neat tradition/identity to build around.
I also want a way to get kids to be excited about playing o-line as they all want to play d-line initially as our D Line coach is a very charismatic and well-known young guy who played major college ball locally and spent some time in the pros as well.
Any other suggestions or ideas are more than welcome.

MOTTO FOR DEFENSE THIS YEAR IS
"PENETRATE, PURSUE, PUNISH"
Rather than breaking the defensive huddle with everyone saying "Break", we are going to say "ATTACK!"

May sound corny but how about "Block-until the whistle" or if youneed just one word-"Block"

If you'd be willing to change establishing you could go with
Building and Executing..........
Just another idea though, I personally like using brothers better. I think this would make for a great tradition though, something the kids could take pride in.

we don't really have catch-phrases or anything, but we do try to establish roles for everyone.
for the qb's, we stress "be a distributor of the ball"... thought process behind it is to relieve any pressure they put on themselves to make a play or win the game, and to break their role down to its simplest form == get the ball to the proper person at the proper time... i.e. distribute.

I hope rbush is right and that guys buy into it. I think it The Beast (brothers establishing attitude speed and tempo) lends itself to some cool phrases and sayings:
The Beast never rests
The Beast always wants more
The Beast Is Hungry
The Beast Always finishes it's prey
and so forth. I like it also because it connotes an attitude of aggresiveness for our line. Again, anything you guys have in mind I would love to hear. I love this sh*t.

Band of Brothers is one of the best team slogans we have every come across. It IS a big tradition at our school - got started by accident 6 years ago just as the HBO series was coming on.
I had taken over as Head Coach and our team was still trying to find itself. One day there was some griping going on and I just stopped practice and brought them together. I told them we needed to become a "team" like the original Band of Brothers. One of our players said, "like the HBO show" and I said no, like the guys in Shakespeares Henry V, which I then had to relate to them.
Briefly, the story goes that the one side was hopelessly outnumbered by theie enemy, and that the next day's battle would bring certain death for all who stayed and fought. For those of you who don't know the famous line it is as follows...
"We few, we happy few, we Band of Brothers; for he who stays, and sheds his blood with me, shall be my brother."
The players actually got it and at the end of practice, the seniors broke our huddle with "BAND OF BROTHERS!" It was a turning point for our season, and ultimately our program. One of team t-shirts uses it each year, the players keep the chant alive (at practice and in games!), and it works for us jsut as well in the classroom! Hopefully that gives you a bit more (maybe too much!) info behind the Brothers.

I like the one we used on defense a couple of years ago: "Slogans? We don't need no stinkin' slogans."

For our DBs we did "Interceptions are our business. . .and business is good." We had 24 interceptions in 2004, 29 interceptions in 2005.
