When taking over a program how do you handle which staff to take back? Are candidates who applied for the head job but did not get it good candidates to bring back, or is it usually a sticky situation?
Do coaches usually understand when they are replaced or are they confrontational?

When I took over this program, I shuffled the deck a bit with the existing staff. Everyone was understanding and open to it. I did fire one guy, but it was not confrontational. I told him (he was an assistant freshmen coach) that I wanted to bring in some of my own ideas and people and I did not have a spot for him.
My only other advice is to make sure you have good pepole to take the place of those you may not keep. Experienced coaches are hard to find.
