What are the things that other coaches/teams do in practice that you feel can be streamlined. Whether because you think they are of minimal importance to the outcome of the game, or they are something that cannot be controled. Just something I was wondering about.

chanting, clapping , long warmups, laps, ...any drill where the oline is just firing into air (waste of time really unless its about cadence and conditioning)...any drill where a kid has to wait in line is bad too.

...any drill where the oline is just firing into air (waste of time really unless its about cadence and conditioning)... wouldn't call it a waste of time. several things can be accomplished vs air ... primarily footwork drills i.e. zone steps (first step, 2nd step) or pass sets (first kick, etc.)

I hear ya huey, just personal choice , if we are firing out id rather them actually have to apply blocking rules and get reps on scheme too. seems that just firing into air with no defense in front is wasted time, or at least not being used best.

special teams are the biggest waste of time for us, i know we need them, but while we are practicing them so many of the kids are just standing there, ive tried suggesting using 16 players to fill all special teams roles, so i could taake my linemen and get work done with them, but HC wants everyone to watch so we can plug someone in if necessary. so whenever we do ST more than half of the team just stands there and watches

By the way...what is Superfluous?

Stretching. We got rid of it this year and haven't had a single pull or strain that I am aware of. A legendery coach in the area doesn't stretch and he said to me last summer "if I grab johnny in the 4th quarter and put him in, he doesn't stop and stretch on the way to the huddle." We do still stretch in the offseason and do neck isos in the weight room year round for liability reasons.
This year special teams has also been a pretty big waste too. It will definately have to be overhauled for next year.
We have an opponent that does the Haka (Polynesian Dance) during halftime. It looks pretty cool, but man they must have spent days learning it.

walking / talking / or otherwise not moving during TEAM / Group time.
If the players aren't moving by the time you've got to GROUP, something is wrong. Coach them up in the classroom / in Indy (maybe)........build the cresendo....cut the chit-chat BS. Either you know it or you don't

The use of the word superfluous on a football coaching message board is, in and of itself, superfluous Honestly, any stretching that takes more than five minutes. That and putting in a new play every week against a defense, instead of just adjusting to the defense and running the stuff you already have.

1] Stretching. 2] Would rather do warm up in group. 3] Spec. Tms. with half the team standing around. I try to get 2 of each team when possible, and I'm not the coor., but hear complaints from coaches that it wastes time. It doesn't because as soon as the ball is kicked and the team has gone down field, we step in the next group and 1st group runs off field. Probably more, but that's all that comes to mind at present.
