I have many of them that I given to my teams throughout the years but I am always in search for more. Here is one of mine that I found a few years back. Let me hear some of yours. I usually give one out every thursday to our players at our team meeting.
BUILDERS OR WRECKERS
I watched them tearing a building down,
A gang of men in a busy town;
With a ho-heave-ho and the side wall fell.
I asked the foreman, “Are these men skilled?”
He gave a laugh and said, “No, indeed!
Just unskilled labor is all I need.
I can easily wreck in a day or two
What builders have taken a year to do!”
And I thought to myself as I went my way,
Which of these roles have I tried to play?
Am I a builder who works with care,
Measuring life by rule and square?
Am I shaping my deeds to a well made plan,
Patiently doing the best I can?
Or am I a wrecker who walks the town
Content with the labor of tearing down?
Remember the hours!
Great football teams are not built over night. Over many years athletes have paved the way to create the “School Name” Football Tradition. What are you doing to keep this tradition alive? As the story tells, it takes many man hours and a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to build something great. But it only takes a fraction of that time to tear it down. Don’t forget all of the hours that you have spent this summer and season to build to where we are at. If you treat every moment like it is your last, if you don’t let little things get you down in the game, great things will happen tomorrow night against “Team”. As I said before, we all know who the better team is, now it’s time for us to prove it.
It’s time!
