I am a guy who likes to find efficient ways of doing things. Now that the season is over, my brain has time to work on stuff that may be trivial....like locker name tags.
Right now, we have the classic athletic tape on some of the lockers with names, numbers, nick-names, pictures, whatever the kid draws/writes. I hate it with a passion...it just looks $h!tty.
This is my idea: All lockers have Velcro above them. When a freshman comes in, we make a "nice" name tag. First and last name in color with our mascot and graduating year. It gets laminated and Velcroed to their freshman locker.
When they are a JV, their name tag changes locker rooms and now they have a nice name tag.
When they move to Varsity, their name tag follows them into that locker room and stays 2 years.
When seniors graduate, coaches take the senior tags and puts them on a plaque. "Senior class of XXXX" and it can hang in the locker room for ever.
What do you guys do/think?

Great idea, either keep the tags OR if the seniors would like they could take their name tags. We had those made for us when I played ball and we got to take them home and I still have it to this day.

For the Seniors, we could make another tag with their number and positions on it that they could take home. Sub varsity it would be hard with numbers and positions because they could change...

At a school like mine with limited money (I've thought about this before) Do Name and Mascot only and they get it either during their Freshman season in which you can make a big deal about it and have a "welcome to the system" thing or you could do it at the beginning of their sophomore year seeing as you will always have some dead-loss out of the Freshmen. Keep it all 3 or 4 years if you make it all the way through, if you dont then you turn it in to a team captain.

I have a template in Microsoft word if you would like it. It isn't the best but it could be a starting point.

I made ours in Excel this year. First time I've tried it and its a cheap way out, but can be as fancy as you wanna design it. I put them up after a player has gone through fall camp, or if they are a late arrival after they've stuck a week or two.

Our lockers are metal so the backs of the name tags are magnetic. We only do this for the varsity players.
For the sub-varsity we use different colors of electrical tape. Red is freshman, yellow is sophomore, and green are juniors. We write their names on the tape with a sharpie. We do the same for helmets during pre-season practice. One for the front and one for the back.

I still got these really nice magnets all over the place with my name and the school's logo on it. They were about 10"x2" with bold type, school colors, logo, the works. Plus, everyone got to take them home after the season.
