With PI in High School no longer being an automatic 1st down, at least in FL, I saw a team do something similar in a goal line situation. Offense kept getting half the distance til the clock ran out.
I dont know how I feel about it...it isn't quite making a travesty of the game, like the HS team who kept swiping the ball at the end of the game, but it's maybe approaching that line...maybe?

In HSFB the referee can call an Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty for anything not specified in rule book he deems making a travesty of the game (don't have a rule book with me right now so not sure of exact wording).

Is it a travesty of the game or playing within the rules?
I know, for example, end of the game if I want to take a safety, I would tell every single player on that field to hold their rear ends off to allow for as much time to run off the clock for the game to end.
The swiping of the ball is bush league and should be a rule introduced to prevent that.

That'd be a pretty gutsy call by an official

We NEVER had to use it but like what the Niners did I am fine with it. Unlike the ball swipe (which technically occurs before the snap) this is something done during the play and thus also allows for the clock to run, so in the end you are giving up yards for time, which I feel still keeps it within the spirit of the game.

Genius! Bravo Chip Kelly, Bravo!
We did the last play safety thing once where we held everybody we could. I think there were 5 or 6 defenders on the ground flopping like fish underneath our guys laying on them. Problem was our QB ran away from one defender being blocked and kept going out of the end zone....with 2 seconds left on the clock.
We had to kickoff with only a 2 point lead. Onside/squibbed and made the tackle, but man we were sweating it!
