You are a Flexbone Enthusiast, You run Flexbone, your screen name has to do with the Flexbone, and you have an opportunity to watch one of the FBS Academy teams live in action this weekend:
1) Do you attend? 2) If Yes, Do you go, sit back, enjoy yourself "Be a Fan" and watch the beauty of the Triple Option. Or do you go with your coaching hat on and try to watch the nuances of the Offense and learn something?
thoughts?

I never try to learn when I'm there as a spectator. First, I paid good money and travelled, I'm going to have fun. Second, I won't see much because by the time I figure out what's going on the play is over, and I'll see what three guys did. If I can't rewind and pick it apart, what's the point. Third, the only plays I'll recognize precisely in real time is the bad stuff, the little nuances and tags will happen too fast to be sure.

I said both because you will try to watch it as a fan, but like u say u see something obviously bad, u will then start to watch the game more coach like.
When i have gone I'm usually enjoying te atmosphere too much to pay attention to game stuff. I will though if I'm close enough watch the coaches signal plays and see how they interact with players and stuff

I meant to say "base stuff" but I guess that works too.

All of the above, I find myself trying to predict what will be run myself and if it's not what was run. Other than that, kick back and enjoy the show.

Personally, it's impossible for me to turn my coaching brain off during a game, even when I try.

I usually look at the offensive formation and then how the defense aligns. "Oh, man Rocket Toss is there." That type of thing. Always rooting for the fellow flexbone guys to do well tho.

I usually look at the offensive formation and then how the defense aligns. "Oh, man Rocket Toss is there." Same. This is a little off task. I don't run flexbone anymore where I am at but flexbone taught me so much about manipulating and taking advantage of a defense. The guys I coach with now are always blown away way i call a play and say "watch this, this chit is going to score" and then it does. Had my players ask me this year if I just call chit and get lucky or what is going on. We didn't often score on our opening drive, but lit teams up after that. The opener was for seeing how they play certain plays and align to certain formations. After that, find the weakness and do work. To the OP, I'd watch as a coach. Always learn. Especially if Flexbone is what you do. Make sure to have fun too though.

We took our whole program (Freshman & Varsity) to see Army play two weeks ago. Tailgated, made it fun for the boys and everything. You can do a mix of both. But as coaches, we just sat back and watched the game as a fan, and hoped our kids got something out of it. My freshman seemed to get more out of the trip than the varsity, but we had a blast. Army runs the triple flawlessly. It was amazing to watch

I went and watched Navy at Memphis last year and was like a little kid. Made my wife get there way early and watched all pre game warm ups, stood down close n took pics of Reynolds, tried to do a little of both once game started. Pissed some Memphis fans off when I saw the wheel coming open and was standing up fist pumping about the time the ball was released. I did take notes of everything they did In Pre game. Can't wait till they come back next year!
