Does anyone use an off season point system to increase participation during the off season. We read an article about a high school in Illinois that does it and incorporates the points into ranking on the helmets and parlays that into possible captain spots. It sounds like a very interesting idea we would like to look more into.
I just watched the Glazier Clinic Off-Season Leadership Program Building a Team Off the field by Paul Cornwell that has many great points. If anyone uses something similar to this I would be interested in finding out more info.

Ive ben at a couple places that do them, usually it is one point for every practice/wt room day attended. If you are in a winter or spring sport you get a point for every day of the other sport attended.
We also had various ways of awarding points based on increases in maxes and improving times on various runs and drills. Players were in groups of 4, at the end of each cycle prizes were donated and awarded to the top groups; actually, there was one place that gave out like $50 amazon gift cards to the winning group (still don't know how we got away with that).

I've got one that I used when I was a HC... points for attending workouts, points for academic grades, etc... jersey number selection and equipment issue was based on points.
