We have a very young team. We only have 2 seniors on a varsity roster of 40. While there is no for substitute for experience, we are looking for game scenarios to review with our team.
Here are a few we have come up with.
1. Blocked kicks/punts that don't cross the LOS can be recovered by either team.
2. Backwards passes are live balls.
3. Getting out of bounds to stop the clock instead of trying to get an extra yard or two during a two minute drill.
4. You can't advanced a muffed punt
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

1. When covering a punt you can't just touch the ball down and walk away.
2. A QB cannot throw the ball away just because he's outside of the pocket.
3. There is no "5 yard jam rule" in HS football.
4. You don't need to wait until the ball is kicked to cover a punt in HS.

Chit, idk how many times I've had to explain pass interference to my kids. "I can hit him after 5 yards!?!?"
1. A 2 point conversion is dead on change of possession.
2. Can't advanced a recovered onside kick.
3. Maybe explain the difference between getting on the ball on Punt Return vs KOR? Not sure how much experience your kids have.
4. If the ball cross the goal line and misses on a FG it is a touch back... Pretty Rare, but I have place kick punted before.

Partially blocked a punt but it went about 10 yards. Despite the fact that we practice it all the time and that it was right in front of our bench and everybody was screaming "Peter, peter, peter" our LB sprinted from the middle of the field and tried to jump on it. You can guess the rest. We had a kicker shank a kick that rolled dead on about the 1. Trouble was, both teams just ran off of the field and the other unit jogged on. The official waited about five seconds but when he saw that there were 44 players on the field, none of whom were even looking at the ball, he just blew it dead.

Probably all of us have seen video of a team that lost a heartbreaker because they didn't understand that the game does NOT end when the clock hits 0:00. Only the whistle ends the game.

In one game our QB threw a bubble route to our TE and he missed it, our whole team thought it was incomplete and walked back to the huddle while the other team picked it up and scored a TD. In the second half we partially block their punt and it rolls forward but still behind the line of scrimmage, we walk away to the sideline while they pick it up and run for another TD. I wish we went over these things with our kids. Needless to say, we had a rulebook session the next Monday going over all the big rules and small rules but emphasizing if you don't know if it's a fumble or not, jump on it, and if you don't know if the play is live or dead, assume it is live and get in position.

I once saw a team wait for a punt to roll dead and think it was over. They started jogging off the field, other team scooped it up and ran it in.

4. If the ball cross the goal line and misses on a FG it is a touch back... Pretty Rare, but I have place kick punted before. Had a legit (top 20 in the nation) kicker the last couple years. We place kicked punts all the time, it was amazing. Once you crossed their 40 it was all fair game, and he made quite a few of them anyways.
