Coaches, currently at a program that has a small town with a lot of local businesses and good community. However, They are not involved in the football / athletics program in any way. We would really like to get them involved with the high school especially the football program.
What I would like to see is just some school logos maybe in their windows, a sign on our field representing them. Just two quick examples
My question is, how have some of you all reached out to your community and got them involved. How do you represent them and how do they represent you all. We are talking local businesses and community groups.

Find out what it cost for a small sign with PROUD SUPPORTER of ABC FOOTBALL in their window, and what a sign would cost to put on your field then add say $25-50 that would line your program's pockets and ask them to sponsor. Or we've had a local resturant pay for the sign, then donate pancakes for a breakfast. I found once you get one or two businesses, its easy to get others. Especially if there are competitors. "Well you know Bob, Jim's gas station is doing it, just didn't want you to be left out." I've have businesses ask for a bigger sign (and more $ for us) to outdo their competitor.

After they sign up, invite them to a sponsor appreciation night. Let their employees in for free, recognize them during the game. Also, make sure parents know who sponsors and encourage them to patron that business. Also if you and your coaches could start eating breakfast, whatever at the local diner and shoot the crap with the "brain trust" as I call them (the old men who drink coffee and know it all), it goes a long way too.

We have practice late on Thursday (7PM) and allows us to participate with a restaurant per week in town that we call "Dine-Out" night with the team. The kids' families/friends/community says they're with the football team and our program gets 10% of the proceeds.
They get a huge crowd, we get a little $ in return. Downside? We're such a small town that we only have 3 places to eat.
