I remember hearing that Harbaugh does something called a "play pen" during practice where he has hurt guys doing ridiculous amounts of cardio. Anybody do something like this with injured guys?

I've never heard of the 'play pen', but I have heard of the trainers busting the injured guys tails with push ups, sit ups, riding the bike, etc..... The premise is to make being hurt/injured worse than being in practice.

Our athletic trainer takes care of the injured players for us as far as handling their conditioning and she does a great job of getting them back on the practice field.

Everywhere I've been has some cute name for it
We've tried it but the hard part is you don't have a training staff to run it
You have coaches and they're busy coaching so our issue was getting someone to run it and make them work
They also have a lot of equipment to get the kids working out as much as possible while letting their injured part heal

In college we had Yellow jerseys with Red crosses for "numbers". The injured group was dubbed the "cheese squad". You did ridiculous cardio for an upper injury, and crazy amounts of upper body stuff for a lower injury.

The premise is to make being hurt/injured worse than being in practice. Our athletic trainer does this, if they're injured she makes them do workouts until they're healed back enough to come back. They have to finish the protocol, and if they don't they can't come back to practice (i.e. if a kid goes through the motions or skips exercises, they can't return to practice/game). Our staff fully supports it because we know that if they're hurt and over there that it's because they're really hurt and not skipping practice.

We tried this a few years ago; however, like a previous poster said, the coaches are busy coaching.
I find that giving them a filming job or making them be a manager/water is a way to make them useful during practice.

Meyer did something like that. He had them fill up wheel barrels with sand. Push them across a sand pit. Empty it and then do it again going the opposite direction.
