Watching the Houston v Oklahoma broadcast on ABC, and the announcers just listed Mayfield's (OU) stats reading off "9 for 9, for 162 yards and a "TUD". (TD)
Is this a thing? Have you ever heard that before? I am pretty anti abbreviations and slang/jargon in the first place, and abhor the fact that the word "championship" has been shortened to "ship" as in "we are heading to the 'ship'" But is TD now going to be called a "TUD"

I'm guessing it was a typo

I'm guessing it was a typo No, the announcer said "tud" as the pronunciation for TD. Similar to when someone says "ribee" (Rib-e) when they read RBI on the stat sheet.

Illiterate graphic guy and an announcer too dumb to recognize the error before sending it out over airwaves.

We called them a tub in college. No clue what a tud is. Why in the world does TD need to be shortened? I get touchdown being shortened, hence TD. But now shorten TD with tub? I have never heard that before and it is stupid. I get things like interception shortened to pick. It is shorter. I get "interception returned for a touchdown" shortened to "pick six". TD to tub. WTH?

Jesus Christ, it was a typo. ? Was it? What was the person reading? I have never been in a broadcast booth of a Major sport event, so I don't know. Maybe you do. As I mentioned several times, the "tud" was not something that the viewer saw. It was not a typo mistake on a graphic. Are the announcers reading a stat sheet, or reading from the graphic the viewers are seeing on screen?

Illiterate graphic guy and an announcer too dumb to recognize the error before sending it out over airwaves. Again though it WASN'T a graphic The graphic was the standard vertical set up with the top being 9-9 the middle being 162 and the bottom saying 1 TD. Regardless, it is good to see that this isn't a thing I missed like apparently the word 'ship was.

Kids just make new meanings to existing words.

Well, then - a Generation Y announcer trying to "relate" to Millennial watchers-listeners?

Pretty sure it was "tud" as in short for "tuddy" as in a goofy way of saying "touchdown".

Are we getting to be such a Social Media society announcers are too lazy to say "Touchdown," have to use Twitterese shorthand?
At least say "Nine for nine, 162 yards and a score."

At least say "Nine for nine, 162 yards and a score." Keep in mind that those guys have to say this stuff all day. Reading the same thing over and over must get pretty boring.

Tub is a real word for a TD - must be a West Coast thang... DeSean Jackson and Marshawn Lynch come to mind...
Comes from when an athlete would score a TD but turned and fell backwards into the end zone like falling in a "tub"...
I have also heard a TD refereed to as a "tug"
