I'm conducting a survey. I have three questions for you to answer about practice each week.
1.) How long do your practices last?
2.) Does each practice include at least one special team unit?
3.) Does your staff use a practice plan?
Thanks!

Our staff is split between O & D, not JV & varsity, so when the JV is on D the varsity is on O. Separate playing fields next to each other.
We go 315-5 on Monday, evenly split between O & D, for put in & walk thru. Weights after that for the varsity
T/W we go 315-530, split between O & D, includes 2 special teams at each level - Var does punt/punt return, JV does KO/KOR. Next day the special teams are reversed. Video on T, weights on Wed.
Th we go 330-445'ish for JV, varsity goes 6-715'ish under the lights. We run a full game script.
I publish a plan each night for the next day, just blocking out the times. OC & DC do the details within the blocks I allocate. The weekly schedule will remain the same, some slight variation possibly, for the season.
No Saturday workouts or anything, too much geography to cover.

45 minutes O and D each and 20 minutes of a different special team each day. I write the practice plan but it is an outline of time. Usually looks the same week to week. Conditioning one day at the end of practice and Monday weights and film. 3-3:15 pass routes, 3:15 to 4 (O or D), 4-4:20 Special Teams, 4:20-5:05 (O or D), 5:05-? conditioning-usually on Tuesday. It can vary some but that's usually it. No warm-ups. Haven't done them for 6 years. Sometimes have practice at 3:15 start with a fun drill. Home games are on saturdays but all other games are friday nights. Nothing for players on saturday or Sunday though coaches communicate as needed. No coaching meetings either on weekends.

This would be my preference, with maybe cutting practice down to two hours. Right now, we go 2-3 hours, depending on HC's judgement. We never practice special teams, except during our walk-through on Thursdays, and my HC told me yesterday, "I don't do practice schedules during the regular season."

No First year coaching and the guys I coach with are all really good guys but we aren't as organized as I would like to be. I would like to be on a practice plan and keeping things moving at a faster tempo. I like to be really organized though so the first few practices were rough on me because I wanted structure I guess.

Only time we practice punt is 2 reps on Thursday and we only quick kick. We run UBSW, if it's 4th and 5 or less we're running the ball.

We use a written practice plan every day, even on pregame day. We practice offense and defense every day, and each period is timed, and group/team periods are scripted. Before we go on the field each day, we go over the practice plan as a staff. Drill period are anywhere from 5 minutes to 20 minutes. No period is longer than 20 minutes, and sometimes the shorter periods(10-15 minutes) are subdivided. We make a big effort not to lose time in transition from one period to the next. The various scout team players know who they are and have pinnies on before we get to that part of practice. Players are responsible to get whatever bags, balls, cones, etc that are needed for each position's individual period. We feel that the clock is our opponent during the week as we prepare for the next opponent.

Your post will help in our meeting tomorrow morning. Thanks!

Does your staff use a practice plan? Thanks! Monday and Tuesday are longer, lasting an average of 2 1/2 hours each day. Wednesdays are usually around 2 hours. Thursday is right around an 1 hour. Offense works in PUNT, PAT, and FG during there Team session. Defense works in PUNT RET. This is M-W. We will have at least one session just for KO, KO RET, and Blocks at least twice per week. Normally on Tuesday and Wednesday. Yes we use a practice plan, Defense has one and Offense has a separate. All plays for team are scripted for both O&D.
