I am wondering what were some specific ways in which all of you have either used or have heard of used for fundraising to a program?
I am at a school that is having levy problems....We are not going to pay to play at this moment but any extra money for the program would be great....Also I am hoping to get the kids more involved with program than just being players
Thanks in advance

lift a thon players get people to pledge 1cent, 2 cent per pound etc. after max out day they collect. most people just give 5,10, 20 dollars instead of the per pound. we don't care. we have raised about 10,000 in last 5 years (small school, varsity & jr. high total about 60 players). thats a lot of money (2000 a year) for us. and NO SELLING. good luck with it. raider

Selling the varsity gold-type cards is one of the easiest fund raisers I've been involved with. The coaches set up the "teams" with each coach repsonsible for a team. The rep comes in and gives his "spiel" and gives every kid 20 cards to sell ($10.00 a card). A week later the kids go on a "blitz" where they go around town (but not house to house) trying to sell cards. The kids come back to school and we collect all the money or unsold cards. The rep buys pizza for the kids. He also holds some special drawings for those kids who sell 20 or more cards. At the end of the evening we have our share of the $$$ and the activity is over. We used to do Varsity Gold, but now we go with an outfit named Players Choice. Same idea, but we get a bigger peice of the $$$$.

We are doing plaques to mount on our new lockers. The former player/coach or whatever pay $200 to get a plaque with whatever they want on it that will be permanetly mounted on the locker. We have raised quite a bit of money by doing that.

do car washes, golf tourny, or 3 on 3 bball tourny work well for anyone? Or are you just brining in so little money that it is not worth your time

also, just try this:
develop a well-written, polite letter explaining the current state of the program, what your needs are, what you wish to do for the kids, etc. explain the the current amount of money available (be generic) and that you are seeking donations of any size to the program. ask for people to donate whatever possible. tell them who/where/how to send money to.
then, make tons of copies of this and get a bunch of envelopes/stamps. have each player bring a list of 10 people (relatives, neighbors, friends) and their addresses. give each player 10 envelopes stuffed with the letter. have them address those 10 letters with the people they have come up with. then, you mail them out.
you will be VERY pleasantly surprised with the results of simply asking for money. all it costs you is time, paper, envelopes, postage. have done this several times previous, and it was well worth the 'investment'. most people generally send about $10 or so. our return rate as been around 50% of letters mailed.

Another fairly easy one is to sell tshirts hoodies shorts etc, we do this every now and then, particularly at a small school if there is no other place to get local school stuff, you can get a real nice tshirt for 5 bucks, sell for 10-15 along with hoodies etc, we do this but do it as a one time shot, make a huge push with your kids in the community, then order an handful of extras. We have done lift a thon, and now do varsity gold, We love the varisty gold concept because you are done in 7 days, I would also suggest if you can doing something right at the start of your practice, kids arent in school so they have more time, and as a coach you have a little more pull over them in season to work at vs winter or spring. just a couple thoughts.

Our booster club held a Fun Night (Cascino Night) which included dinner, silent auction, live auction and other raffles. We made nearly $9000 this past year doing it. We also do a "Days of Caring" every other year. Kids go out to different organizations and residential homes twice during the season to perform community service. In conjunction with this, we have the kids send letters to friends/relatives asking for a sponsorship for this activity. This is another activity that makes over $5000 a year.

Lift-a-thon - $1500 - 2006 We do this in conjunction with our summer camp program. Have the students get pledges during camp week and then lift the last day of camp or first couple days of doubles. Pick just one lift adn have them max out.
Golf Scrammble - $6000 - 2006 - 44 Teams of 4 @ $75 a head Quite a bit of work, but if you have a club that will work with you it goes well. They know how to set up the whole thing. Just about any car dealer will sponsor a hole in one hole or two. Get door prizes donated from the community, sell skins, mulligans, 50/50, and raffle off the BIG prizes such as trips. Well worth the time.
Spirit Wear - $2000 - 2006 Sell during football, basketball, school store, year round money maker.
Discount Cards - $4500 - 2006 Did my own card. Had them printed up by local company for $0.35 a card and did all the contract legwork ourselves. Varsity Gold gets about $4-5 bucks a unit. Just cut out the middle man and do the work yourself. I think that it works really well in small communities where you know everyone.
Football Program - $1500 - 2006 Get local advertisers, parents ads, and others. Put in the roster, team photo, player bios, coaches bios, officials signals, directions to away games, team records, schedule, ...............
Race Clean-Up/Parking - $7,000 - 2006 We have a local track that hosts nascar, irl, arca, busch races and we park cars pre-race and clean-up the parking areas post-race. These big tracks are always looking for large service groups to do this type of work for them. We have done college concessions in the past, but have found that the race track is more fun for the kids and much more lucrative for the time invested.
I will try to get a sendfile link up for some of my forms to do some of this later. School has it blocked.

We are going to hold a jersey auction the night before our Homecoming game. We will have a live auction for the road jerseys of all starters, and we will have a silent auction for the remainder of the jerseys. Winning bid gets to wear the road jersey to the Homecoming game. All jerseys must be returned no later than Monday morning or there will be a fine assessed.
At my previous school the Student Council held this auction and got all the money. They would make about $2000 in a school with about 350 students and 50 football players. It was amazing to see how high some of the bids got ($100 was not uncommon).

Greg-
Throw in a coaches pullover to bid on, and allow that person to stand on the sidelines as a guest coach...access to halftime activities as well.
In HS our coaches pullover went for 500 bucks.

Many local restaurants will sponsor a football night. For everyone from your organization that dines at that restaurant on a particular night (that shows some form of identification with the program) the restaurant will donate back between 10-20% of the check. Some restaurants use this as a way to boost business on "off" nights.

In Michigan the Texas Hold'em tournaments are successful and legal with state license. Not to mention a whole lot of fun. Plus it is not only the entry fee that gets you the money but concessions as well.

I just posted the forms that I use to run my own discount program under the template link for those of you that are interested. Why sell 1000 cards and make $5000 when you can do a little bit of work and make $9000?

If your wife is like mine, she is not allowed to bid. My wife would want to start calling plays (which in some cases might be good, as she knows her stuff it seems). Might have to hire her as a coordinator or something. Either that or she would ask me to go and get her some hot chocolate.

We are going to run a fishing tourny this summer. 50.00 per person or 150.00 per boat. Catch and release and we will have about 5 different catagories to win prizes. After the tourny we will have brats, burgers and beer and a free will donation jar. We are hoping to raise 3000.00.

I coach in Minnesota,
But I grew up in north central PA and played high school football there. The best fundraiser I have ever seen or heard of was COW CHIP BINGO. They line the practice field into Five yard blocks people by a block but do not know where their block is on the field. They sell these blocks for 20 bucks. Five cows are brought out by a local farmer the first one to leave some cow chips on the field is the winner and it is a 50-50 split so the winner can take home 2 grand. They set up coffee and donuts and lots of other little things and it brings in about 5 grand for couple of hours on a Saturday morning. It is not the most money but one of the most creative ways I have ever seen.

we just had a lift a thon and asked for flat dontations not pound per pound because of the calculating and collection of money. On the day of the lifting I sent the boys and girls out in groups for a BLITZ and we raised over $6000 at a small 1-A. Our goals was for each male and female athlete to raise $100 and most did.

Ill tell ya what I think is a great fundraiser...
At our middle school they are raffling off a 500 dollar grill...its sitting in the middle school office where the teachers pick up their mail...Im telling you that it is a hot topic of conversation! the tickets are a buck a piece or 6 for 5 dollars...they stuffed the teachers mail boxes with 18 tickets or so each....trust me when I tell ya, I think they are going to raise a bunch of dough on this one...we will see I guess. Btw, its not even a football fundraiser but the buzz around the building has me thinking "ill use that someday"...
