Coaches,
I have only one on campus coach this year. The rest of the coaches are off campus. How many coaches do you have on staff that are teacher? What time do you start practice?

3-4 of us aren't teachers. Of that, 7-8 of us are in the high school. The rest teach at the junior high.

Almost all of our coaches are off campus but that's CA culture typically.

12 coaches on program staff. 1 is on campus as an assistant principal. I am physically on campus because I work from home which happens to be the coaches office. But I am not on the district or school staff so I'm not in the same communication channels as a teacher would be. Located in central CA.
School gets out at 3PM. We start practice at 3:30 and work special teams 1st. That gives our DC and Assistant Principal time to get out of their work duties and get to the field. We go to 5:15 with the JV as the Late Bus leaves at 5:30 and a lot of the younger players don't drive. And a couple of older players as well don't drive. We will be going until 5:30 with the varsity and then weight room. We don't have position meetings with the players, no time unless it comes out of practice. Not anywhere optimal but that's what we have.

The HC is the only guy on our staff who teaches in the school. Another guy teaches at the middle school. All of the rest are off-campus. I'm a retired teacher but I taught in a different district.
School gets out at 3:10 and we start practice at 4.

This year it's finally a majority of coaches at the school. My first year, it was 2 out of 8.
It's not ideal, but as long as the guys in the building are visible and good coaches, everything should be good.

Out of 12 coaches(including volunteers) 5 are in the building, 3 are retired teachers, and 4 are out of the building.

You have to be a teacher or administrator to coach football in AR. Other sports can have volunteer asst. but they aren't allowed to have volunteer HC's

1 out of 10 assistants teaches in the high school with me. It's getting harder and harder to find teaching candidates who are willing to coach in our area.

Two out of 12 work in our district. Those two were just hired within the last month. One will be in the HS with me and the other in another building. After it just being me for 2 years, I'm thrilled. 2 others work at other districts in the area. Everyone else is a non-educator. It's fairly typical for a smaller school in the state.

We are a school of around 600 which puts us in the second to largest class in Iowa. Going down to the 7th grade level, we have 11 coaches. Three of the 7 high school coaches including me are teachers and another one was a school employee who had his job cut for budget reasons and is hoping for a last-minute re-hire. Of the four middle school coaches, two of the four were teachers in the district but one just left for another teaching job, so we have an opening at the moment.

We have no coaches out of 8 on campus. I am the only teacher on staff as well, elem PE in a different district. Our HC works in a different district in a HS as a behavior specialist. We practice from 4-6.

I'm the only coach in the school now...actually the only one in the district. Interestingly enough last year we had two guys in the building that coached football at a rival school in the district. 4 teach in other districts and the rest work outside of education.
Supposedly there were a bunch of coaches in the school but it's difficu to find coaches at all let alone guys that teach and want to coach, and I mean actually coach.

The teacher/coach is a dying breed it seems like. Coaches get brought in and agree to do it to get in the classroom, coach for a few years and quit, or they go to better programs but don't vacate a teacher spot. I have been the only guy in the building at a few stops, and man does that blow.
In MI education is still struggling so a lot of schools just don't have teacher openings when the hire a HC, and if they do, they don't give you your years and don't have to. The job I got last year I want to say had something like 300 applicants still. I called in a few favors and got really really lucky to land where I did teaching and coaching.
If I get a HC job though, I'll probably continue teaching where I'm at if the distance is acceptable because I just can't afford to take a paycut at any point ever.
It's just a tough situation in education these days.
