With the season finally getting close, I was curious how many people have a game day ritual or tradition that they keep with?
I always wear the same undershirt, pants, shoes, socks, underwear, polo, belt and visor. And I always have the same cold weather gear. Also, I always go by every kid when they're stretching and say something, usually profane and encouraging.
I pretty much try to do every Friday the same way, and I always feel off when something majorly changes.
What does everybody else do on game day?

We don't have any here but at my last place our HC and another coach were REALLY superstitious. We ate the exact same pregame meal every week- a Chic-fil-A sandwich. Even when we were getting ready to board the bus for the state championship game, breakfast was chicken biscuits. Counting scrimmages, seventeen straight weeks of Chic-fil-A. Can't even look at the damn things anymore, as delicious as they are.
During the dead time before the game the HC and other guy always played the same music in the office (There's an outer office and an inner office). The assistant always played The Temptations Greatest Hits. The HC played the soundtrack from Remember the Titans. Thing is, as soon as he put it on he'd sit down and take a nap so we had to listen to it. Every stinkin' week. I used to love those songs but now when one comes on the car radio I almost break a finger changing the channel.

Chicken for pregame meal. Wild Berry Skittles in my pocket. Skoal Apple. When we made our playoff run at my previous school I wore the same hoodie every week. First game the next season, no hoodie (its hot in MO in August), lost. Next week, hoodie back on (win). Didnt take it off till we lost in the playoffs again.

Steaks and baked potatoes weekly pregame meal. Two packs of Lance sunflower seeds, one pack of Extra Polar Ice gum, one Diet Dr Pepper. XS Energy drink pre game. Wear the same socks/underwear/etc when we're winning. Switch something after a loss. Oh, and I always take a shower after pregame meal, about 4:30.

Besides, the volcano dried up.

Not sure what my ritual will be now that I am at a new school but in the past it has always been eat Subway (must have a cookie), be the last coach dressed and out of the locker room, go out and watch Soph game while staying as far away from players as possible, go into locker room, 5 Hour Energy, Nasal Spray, be the last coach out again, go win.
I wear the same stuff every game until we lose. I chew a ton of Polar Ice, if things aren't going well, I throw in a new piece.

Would also be interested in hearing any pregame rituals you fellas teams have? Our HC back in the day would turn gym lights off and have everyone spread out. He'd walk around the gym and visually talk his way through the first quarter slowly working his way feok position to position. He'd call out a kid at each position and visually walk you thru your responsibilities and what you needed to do for us to be successful. Wasnt long per kid, all said and done we were in there 15 minutes or so before taking the field. And of course after every win, ring the victory bell.
As for coaching superstituitions, we're 2-7 in my career as an assistant varsity football coach so I wouldnt anything has remotely worked so far.

I am about to share some of my OCD
the night before a game when i shower, i dry myself with a towel the color of the opponent the next day
last year we played a purple team in the 2nd round of the playoffs, so that monday i bought a purple towel, because i knew i would need it for my shower thursday night
(by the way, in my 28 years on earth i have discovered there are ONLY 2 kinds of people... those who shower before bed, and those who are Phcking disgusting and go to bed with an entire day's worth of sweat and filth on them)
i do an Arm day at the gym before school for the pump i then go directly to starbucks and i will wait extra long in line to get the same cashier each time (a little old lady) she has to be the one i order from
i also have a pre game gun ritual after the national anthem, but before kick off, i go around and give a piece of gum (always trident layers... strawberry) to every coach on our sideline
it has become EVERYONE's pre game ritual because I MAKE THEM take it, it is just known as "the good luck gum"

I'm not OCD about that stuff but I take the free food and drinks from the other OCD bastards on staff.

We can order hamburger, chicken, or a club. We eat the same meal until we lose. I broke out the lucky shorts and told the guys I would wear them no matter what until we got beat. Three straight games in the low twenties. Pre-game walk around at home and turn the lights on and it's all business.

Good Lord...I have only a couple and it is to honor my old college coach (whom I think may be on this board). I dress up and look sharp on game day. Slacks, Button Down, sometimes a tie, and I eat scrambled eggs, sausage, and cheese grits for breakfast.
Pre Game - Workout, Mtn Dew, 5 Hour Energy.
And for away games, I ALWAYS DRIVE THE BUS. Many think I'm crazy but it relaxes me. If we take a charter, I'm SOL.

Pick up Wendy's or Arby's on the way home from school, eat it, take a dump, grab a drink for me and the HC (something caffeinated for me, and a Gatorade for him) from the party store on the way back, and then we go to work.
Game days are the only time during the year that I am that unhealthy. I normally stay away from that quantity of junk food.

It's a good thing high school football games aren't played on Sunday's or else your previous HC would have a major problem on his hands!
