The theory according to the migrant workers in the fields here, and they ALL wear long sleeves, is that long sleeves keeps a layer of sweat which helps dissipate body heat, and any kind of light breeze cools you more. I can't bring myself to even try it once.

All I know is I got burned really really good on the first day of camp last year because I'm a dumbass and forgot sunscreen. I use sunscreen every time and wear long sleeves most of the time now. It really isn't that uncomfortable if it is a light material.
