Serious question? When you go to coaches school/clinics and get hotel rooms, how many coaches do you put in a room? Assuming there are two queen size beds. I say 3 - other guys says if you do 3 might as well do 4. We are debating/arguing this right now. What are your thoughts? Thanks

Depends what your school can afford.
Old school did 1 coach a bed, new school puts 4 guys in a room w/ 2 beds.

When we go to state clinic in the summer and athletic dept pays we get 1 coach per bed. When we go during clinic season, or go visit a college and the booster club pays we go 4 to a room,

1 per bed if at all possible. If not everyone has to share a bed, the newer guys have to share. And the HC is the last to have to split a bed.
And you always try to find a bed mate early in the process. Because if you're a normal sized guy, it's nice to find a smaller person instead of the behemoth line coach.

We usually end up 2 per bed but usually a king bed. Not like we do much sleeping anyways.

I think it depends on how you feel about sleeping in bed with another coach
Nothing wrong with it it's a personal preference
1 a bed is great 2 a bed is doable
Side note, legally you're allowed to smother the other guy with a pillow if he snores

I snore pretty bad. I always tell who is with me you better be a sound sleeper or drink because I am loud. dytmook, your staff must be pretty close.

I'm 34 years old. My days of sharing a bed with another dude are over. I'll pay the difference to get my own bed.

4 to a room and be sure to take a dump in the other coaches room once you check in.
If you're doing the break-out sessions right, you won't be doing much sleeping anyway

Great story about this topic, legendary coach here in our state. State record holder for wins at one time, may still be, IDK. Anyway, takes his whole staff to a clinic. Gets 1 room. Tells the boys, "We are gonna have to share beds boys, we just couldnt afford more than 1 room. Any of you is welcome to sleep with me, but just so as you know, I sleep naked." Then he strips off his clothes and climbs into bed. Needless to say, he didnt have a bedmate. LOL

We do a staff getaway each year. As mentioned above certain coaches have preferences/phobia and won't sleep with another dude. We try to accommodate guys who will share a bed, utilize roll away beds, couch beds, cots and other (make your own bed. If I go to a clinic at a certain place I try to work the front desk for a suite and extras. Amazing what some will do for you if you ask.

Whenever possible, we try to book suites with multiple beds. Instead of getting 3 rooms for 6 coaches, we can get a couple 2-bedroom suites with pull-out couch for less money. Plus the suites usually have more amenities like a kitchen.
The best are Marriott Residence Inn...some of them have 4 beds plus a pull-out couch and cost less than 2 standard hotel rooms.

If a guy is really not comfortable sharing a queen sized bed with another guy, have him pay 1/4 of the cost of the room to "get his own bed". If you have 2 guys that can't handle it, put them in the same room and now 1/2 of that room is covered and everyone else is 4 to a room.
I'm still young enough that 2 nights sleep on the floor won't kill me either. Been to clinics with schools on very tight budgets where there were 5 in a room and I'd volunteer for the floor. You could also cut down on the "freeloader coaches" who just go to party and not attend sessions. I was the OC for a guy who only invited the coaches to clinics that he knew were going to attend and get something out of it. If he wasn't sure about some of the guys, he would leave them home, or they would all have to room with him so they couldn't party all night and then miss sessions. Usually 1 or 2 guys per staff who are just there to party, so cutting them out cuts out 1 or 2 rooms depending on your situation.

When we have overnight games its 4 to a room. When we go to the convention its at least 4 to a room. When we do "pod" recruiting (large metro areas where we have our who staff there for a few days to finish rapidly) its at least 4 to a room. We send 2 guys to texas for a week they get a room, the 2 days in california come with a comp room for our 2 guys, and the 3 weeks in Florida range from 2-5 guys in a room. (Those 3 out or region trips synch up and encompass some big on campus recruiting days so 2-3 guys drive down and 2-3 fly in and get picked up along the way.
I either sleep on the floor or get my own bed in with people I've worked with in the past. 2 guys with most seniority on our staff don't share a bed and both are confirmed bed chitters. Pass!

There's a name for that? We just call it "in the road recruiting in X."

A great coach once addressed this situation with this gem of a line - "You can go pole to pole, or hole to hole, but if you go pole to hole were gonna have some problems"
Pretty much sums it up.

Yea that's what we call it in large areas. For instance geographiccally it makes sense to give 1 guy three neighborinng counties, but he won't be able to make it if like in 1 of our pods those 3 counties have 160 schools. So as a staff we have 8 guys spend 4 days there and one coach pick up the ones that were missed later. These are the only times the school pays for hotels in our tri-state area. Otherwise we drive back and forth or pay for our own hotels.
Gets rough sometimes we've had 2 rooms others 1. We had a suite once. 2 in a bed, one on the couch, I was in a recliner, others on the floor. Better than driving 2 and change each way each day.

We don't divide recruiting by geography like that, so it tends to just be the same guys out on trips all over the country.
