Alright, when we break it all down, football is just a series of drills put together to make plays. Those drills are just successive movements based on stimulus response. Now with that, do you or do you not believe you could teach gorillas / monkeys to actually "play" football? I guess it would be a cognitive study in how to TEACH / COACH without relying on cultural exposure of football at adolsecence. And if so....on a personal note..........i would field a team of 11 defensive gorillas versus 10 offensive gorillas............with Peyton Manning as my quarterback. I'd imagine Manning's arms would be ripped off on the 2nd snap. That'd be cool.

Sounds like a doctoral thesis to me. But did you have to use Peyton? That stings us Tennessee boys. Personally I'd rather see T.O. go across the middle on that defense.

I agree to a certain extent. I don't know if gorillas could process that much information in that short amount of time...(99% of humans can't even process the information that fast...that's why there is only 1 Peyton Manning, 1 Tom Brady, etc...)
If you only had to read 1 thing and then react to that 1 stimulus, then i would go with the gorilla defense. Unfortuneately, I have to teach my defensive ends to read the Tackle in front of them, as well as the FB/TB action in the backfield at the same time. That's 3 pieces of information processing in a split second.

Think you could get gorillas to run block/tackle each other and it not be seen as an act of aggression? I bet you could get them to run through a couple of basic plays through stimulus/response. And get a defense to react to it. But it seems to me that if it was actually full speed most of the acts in football are aggression/dominance moves that wild animals wouldn't understand the context.

Take this as a joke guys.... I bet the Gorillas could run the double wing. Think about it. No reads, just agressive smashmouth fury. You could even teach them sign language and signal plays to them.
