Trader Joes has a HUGE variety of premise salads that are pretty quality. I usually buy 3-4 for the week and eat leftovers the other days. I'll also make lazy man salads with their chicken salad and some baby spinach mixed together. F*ck I love Trader Joes. You're perpetuating the California beach hippie stereotype My gf is a vegetarian so she's a big fan and shops there I enjoy their cereal and a couple other items

Living like a vagabond last season, hit the grocery store across from the stadium in the morning and scour it for stuff with a pink clearance sticker. That's when they're trying to get rid of yesterday's pre made stuff so I can usually get something good. A lot of salads, sandwiches, sometimes I'll find bread and cheese.
I've also been known to get fancy, like when I got some bone-in pork chops, wrapped them in prosciutto, and put them in the toaster oven. Pretty. I have anything I see that's good and on clearance.
I was also mocked and then hailed as a genius when I put a huge tub of ice cream in the coaches fridge at the start of camp.

I just don't see how some people are putting on weight during the season. Once summer camp starts we are out there coaching on the field upwards of 25 hrs a week; not to mention the hours breaking down film etc. Thats a lot of additional calories out. I always joke that a side benefit of coaching football is being able to eat whatever I want during the season w/o gaining weight. I'll tell ya how coach, it's he Saturday's and he Sunday's . Or like our school, in season the booster club feeds us like crazy, Thursday night team meal Friday team lunch Friday after game team meal Sat film, donuts and milk Sun film starts after lunch , I bring a snack, and then booster club brings us dinner. And the stopping and eating fast food after junior high games or grabbing stuff at a convient store that's not healthy, I try to limit it to cheese beef jerky, but sometimes u wanna big ole fountain drink of coke and a Hershey's bar, kit kat, whatever, ya know Lol

This thread sparked a conversation last night with my girlfriend. This will be my first season living with a normal human instead of other coaches so I'm excited for a potential healthier life. Last year, our OL coach and I would just go to the bar when we were all done and eat wings and burgers. There's a reason it's the first season I ever gained weight.
Monday is a late day for us, so she said she'll handle dinner on Monday, and then send me leftovers for Tuesdays. I'll throw something big in the crockpot Tuesday morning (bbq chicken/salsa chicken/pot roast/this chicken pot pie mix I make that is easily my best dish) and that'll carry us for a couple of days. Thursday will be some sort of going out night for us. Not crazy, just mexican or pizza or something but I'll get her out of the house, since she can only talk to the dog for so long before I'm in trouble.
Sundays are always my worst day. I'm usually a little foggy coming in, so I'll get Mcd's breakfast, and we'll order delivery during gameplan. Not to mention 2 coffees and a coke or 3.

For me, it's not so much eating bad stuff during the season as it is overeating. For some reason I let my self over do it way too much in season.

You guys need to look into the 5/2 diet. I've been doing it for two months and I haven't been this lean since in 14 years and it will cut down on prep for two days.

I've read somewhere that there are 2 types of coaches...the Tony Dungy's, who are too busy to eat during the season (he'd make it til dinner eating only a butterfinger) and the Rex Ryan's, who end meetings early to "go have a f***ing snack."
As a former OL who weighed well over 300 lbs, keeping my weight down post-player has been a struggle. Of course, the 62" pizza's I eat at the San Antonio AFCA convention dont help. I'm a PE teacher in FL, running around outside in the heat kills me. Every time I diet, or significantly cut my calories, I get hurt. Something gets pulled, or cramped, and Im out of commission for a few weeks. I had a groin pull several years (and pounds) ago that hampered me for years.
I'm not selling anything here, even though I have links to products, but I've been on a Ketogenic diet for the past 4 weeks, and I've never felt better. Like, it's been bizarrely noticeable how little joint pain I have, whether during lifting or just playing with my daughter. The higher caloric requirement has really helped me make it through the day, I have enough calories to carry me through the 14 hour days in the heat. The best part is, I've had some noticeable weight loss, to the point where other peope have commented, yet the number on the scale hasnt changed. I've kept up my lifting, have put on a decent amount of muscle mass while losing a large amount of fat.
I know this forum isnt the place to sell, and I promise i'm not selling a darn thing. But for those of you in my boat, feel free to either email me, or just Google a Keto diet. It's been incredible for me these past few weeks.

Breakfast = bowl of Special K (2% milk) with half a banana cut in, orange or grape juice, small melon or cantaloupe slices.
Lunch = apple, handful of grapes and baby carrots, water.
Dinner (Saturday through Wednesday) = meat, potatoes, veggies, water.
Thursday night (before Sub-Varsity) = 6" Subway with Peanut Butter cookie, bag of chips, water.
Friday = Pre-Game meal by Moms, after game Pizza, adult carbos.

Sunday- Staff meeting and we usually have pizza or Chinese..
Monday- JV game, and that's usually a burger or hot dog, or both.
Tuesday- I'll usually try to make something simple, like spaghetti.
Wednesday- If it's a home game, my fiancé makes something for me and a few other coaches. If it's an away game, it's probably pizza.
Thursday- If it's a home game, we have to paint the field so that means I eat WAY too much McDonald's. Like, 10 bucks off the dollar menu. If it's an away game, my fiancé cooks the Wednesday meal on Thursday.
Friday- Pre game team meal. If we win, it's some sort of Huddle House breakfast, or Waffle House. If we lose, probably whatever the boosters give the kids after the game, and lots and lots of bourbon.
Saturday- I'll try to make something really good. Maybe throw something on the smoker or make a delicious day-long meal.

How to I gain weight during the season? Because I'm an oline coach and I find ways to eat. Plus I work a pretty sedentary job so it doesn't help.

I don't have time to eat during the season.
Basically I just drink spark and eat slim for life cookies throughout the day. When I get home from practice I might have a normal meal. Somedays I get to the point where I'm so hungry, that I'm not hungry anymore.
Thursdays and Fridays I might fast all day until team meal.
Weekends I eat fairly normal.

Another thing to consider is that beer is basically liquid bread. In many cultures throughout history the noon day meal was a healthy serving of malted beverage or liberal dose of distilled spirits. Plus there is a good amount of the recovery stuff you look for in a post work out shake in beer. The only thing that it lacks is vitamin C and fiber. Soooo, that being said you could bring home a 6 pack every night, take some cilium fiber and chase it with a shot of orange juice and you'll be good to go. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS!!!!! many an nights I have done this same thing, except no OJ. lmfao

Ive kept it going since mid-May, Ive had 2 cheat meals, and they werent even worth it. Ive never felt this good. Cholesterol is down, triglycerides are down, blood pressure is fine, glucose is perfect. I only started working out since we've been back at school. Weight is down 5 pounds...but muscle is significantly more pronounced, and im down 2 inches in my waist. No bloat, no gas, Gerd is gone, DOMS doesnt occur, joint pain/stiffness a thing of the past. As a pre-workout, I started this: 5B6QKD.pruvitnow.com It's a Ketone (fat) shake. Ive never felt anything like it. I start my day with lifting, then work out with all 6 PE classes, then have practice, all in this brutal FL heat. I get home at the end of the day, and I dont feel like I've done a thing. As a Exercise Science major and Health teacher, none of this makes sense. It flies in the face of everything I've ever learned about nutrition. However, I'm finding it impossible to argue with not only how I feel, but what my medical test results show.

In the past, practice would end in season, giving me enough time to get one of my kids and dinner going just in time for my wife to be home with the other child. This year, our practices will be later and my wife will be getting both kids and potentially have to make dinner (if we want to eat at a relatively decent time). She is one that on her menu is generally pasta only, after that, it can get scary. My question: What are your Monday's-Wednesday's like for dinner when you have school aged kids and a wife who works as well? We don't make much money and eating out can be expensive. We also do not eat fast food. Anyone in this situation? Any tricks of the trade? We were thinking about cooking dinner at night to heat up the next day. Dont have time to read the entire thread, so this may have already been said..... but the crock pot saves our family.

I pretty much follow the paleo diet, but I don't have "cheat days" if I feel like eating something then I do.
I also run with the team during conditioning though.

I did keto hybrid plan last year with a movement plan (not hard workout- just riding bike, walking, golfing...anything active three times a day preferably before meals) last year for a while and lost 40 lbs from January to June. Over summer I got off of it and gained 10lbs back. I have cleaned things back up since being back to school. The thing that I benefited the most from was improvement in sleep quality. I typically hadn't been able to get through the night without waking up 8-10 times. After starting this plan only woke up once or twice. It's definitely worth a shot if you are looking to change up eating habits. The draw backs were that you only ate 3 meals a day and delayed the first one.

Ha! The pizza isnt going anywhere. Keto, Paleo, Atkins...all under the same low-carb umbrella. I think the major difference of Keto is it focuses more on your body processes what you eat, as opposed to what exactly you are eating. I maybe should, but I dont count calories. It's really not hard to stick to, it just takes a little bit of planning for meals. It's also pretty tough to over-eat too much on a high-fat diet. McD double-cheeseburgers, sans bun, are usually my emergency meal. The local shady Caribbean restaurant has been keeping me full of Curry Goat and Collard greens

I really have ignored any set meal plans, either ingredients or times. I keep my macros about where they should, and eat when Im able. Sometimes I eat breakfast, sometimes at 6 am before I leave the house, and sometimes I'm not hungry, and coffee more than tides me over til lunch. I realize I might not be optimizing what I'm doing, BUT I feel awesome, and I see results. I'm happy with slow, long-term results. Im in this for the long haul, I have no need to rush anything.
