I coach in Europe, and we have a bout 45 players on our team, and a staff of 5 coaches ( all volunteers including me HC). Last year we played all of our players both ways, and practiced offense and defense, and special teams all in one practice. (We pracitce twice a week.) This led to some incredible depth at some positions ( 22 DB's for example), which became unmanagable. This year we hope to add about 10 players, and we're thinking about 2 platooning. We figure everyone will get more time on O or D, there won't be the unnecessary depth at some positions, and it will give everyone more playing time. We're only 5 coaches to do this, does anyone have any experience with a staff this size? Any advice is welcome! thanx

Coach I'm a firm believer in 2 platooning and believe me we don't always have the kids to do it but we believe that players will take a break so either they take it while on the bench or they take it on the field. The way I recommend you go about it is Have 1 coach handle the QB and RBs. 1 Coach Takes the Recievers and 1 Coach takes the O-Line. On defense you have 1 Coach take the Front 7 and the other coach take the DB's. And you split the peirods for you LB's half the time doing the work in the front 7 going over reads and fits and then the other half the time working pass drops with the secondary. Hope this helps.

DO IT!! GO two platoon!
OC + 1 coach -------you can do QB + Rec -------the other coach does TE + OL
DC + 1 coach -------DC does DBs + OLBs -------other coach does DL + ILB HC meanders and floats
Do "Indy" as prepractice work, working position drills.....then go to group for 20 minutes.....use your TEAM time to coach 'em up, and be sure to SCRIPT the team sessions, so that you are organized and efficient. IT CAN BE DONE!

i know a guy who used to 2 platoon with 5 coaches.
they ran their practice like this
offense first with 4 coachs. defense lifts and film with Dc.
defense second practice with 4 coaches offense lifts, films and meetings.
special teams offensive practice was kor, punt r, fg defensive practice was pb,punt, kc
each practice was 1hr 45. the players played one way, the coaches coached both ways.
firday nights, the oc delt with the offense , dc delt with defense. each had a assistant and the coach ran the total program.
