I am really considering given weekly awards to the standout player in my position group. I already have the approval of the Head Coach. My question is, and I'm going to pose it to him as well, do I award this win or lose? I am leaning towards given the award every week regardless win or loss. What are you guys opinions, including any opinions of giving out weekly awards.

We used to give our a practice player of the week to the team. I went away from weekly awards based on the game because some players and parents were more concerned with the award than the game result. Also I got tired of arguing with some people about what stats counted and/or should count for the award. The practice player award was voted on by the coaches.

I think this is good for the less-recognized groups:
1) OL 2) DL 3) Special Teams
Maybe practice and game?

You know make it a combination of the week as well as the game. I can certainly see how it could spiral out of control. Just looking or a little extra edge. I do like the special teams player of the week and I also have considered scout player. Just looking for something my guys can own as a unit.

OFF also does a Clutch Play of the Game they started to reward someone being Johnny on the spot, they even give it to ST/DEF every once in a while. But then we haven't lost more than 3 games in a season in the last 11 years except for one.

Every week we give awards (a t-shirt) to the following: offensive scout team player, defensive scout team player, big hit, 12th man, special teams player, offensive player of the week, defensive player of the week. These awards are handed out at the end of practice on pre-game day. At the end of the year we award a plaque to the offensive and defensive scout players of the year (in addition to the to other team awards).

We used to award helmet stickers for outstanding play during the game. That included everyone, even ST...but don't do it anymore...several years, in fact.
Back when we did that a single player might get 5 stickers at a time. The position coaches chose the players for the award.
I'm not sure why we stopped. Can't remember.

We do stickers on helmets, each side of the ball decides what warrants a sticker We're doing that this year, Instead of giving away helmet stickers to individuals we're going to give it to the offense, defense or special teams if they meet our goal for that week. My question for you is, what type of goal do you set for these units to hit in order for them to earn a helmet sticker for that week. I'll take whatever you say and subtract it by at least 75 yards because we are a big time work in progress. Thanks!

Helmet stickers are bling, we give more of those things than Dr. Carter has little liver pills. Just figure what you want to reward/recognize. Defensively we give out for sacks, INT, TFL, FF, FRec, tackle points, etc.... Offensively, I'm not sure but stuff like no sacks, TDs, 100 yds rushing, 300 passing, etc....
