Has American Football Monthly gone under? I receive a subscription for Christmas and have yet to receive an issue. I emailed with no response. I called and after leaving a message received a call back and they said there was a problem with the printer. I went to their website and it still shows an issue from 2015 as the current issue. Anybody know what's going on?

I don't know but it wouldn't surprise me, back in the day when I got the print magazine I remember once there was an article about something, but the diagrams that were supposed to be showing what was going on didn't have any lines or arrows, they were just offensive formations with no defense, they even had the writing under the like (figure 2.1 - the H retracts to the .....) but there was nothing drawn there.....seemed like a pretty glaring oversight for a magazine, how does that happen? anyway, it wasn't just that why I canceled, I just didn't think the content was all the fleshed out.

I don't have a subscription anymore, but when I did a few months ago I could never log-in and look at the stuff online. I got the magazines, but it kept saying I didn't have a subscription when I tried logging in.

I had the same problem. I went a year without a getting magazine but didn't notice. When I did notice, I called and emailed them and got a response within 24 hours that they had corrected it and would renew my subscription for an additional year and they sent out the most current magazine to me ASAP. I got it in the mail within 2 weeks... But that was months ago and I haven't gotten another magazine since.

Did they run out of vendors to supply their content for them?

That has been going on with this company for some time, and I had an article published by them (2005).
Second time I re-upped my subscription and didn't get issues when supposed to I stopped sending them money (at least six years ago).

I cancelled about 6 years ago. Still get magazines sometimes, though.

I didn't renew my subscription. It just seemed like the information wasn't as good as most of the stuff I could find online.

I remember when I first got it , I just filled out a card and got it for free.
Then I changed schools and quit receiving it even with a change of address. Like I said, have subscribed twice since , once never got it, and another time only got about half.

Print is dead. I can do everything under the son on a blog, give you diagrams, show you film, chalk-talk, drills etc. It's hard to only read about a play... drills are impossible for me to just read and look at squiggly lines.

Yes But I like to read magazines. I typically read one in about 2 hours cover to cover then go back and read it again. I do the same with newspapers , I read every little bit. Guess I'm kinda old fashion.

I still would rather read books and magazines to get concepts and then research those concepts more through blogs and video.

I don't know if that's true, but how you do it matters. As brophy mentioned, a lot of the people producing content for the magazine had something to sell (like me). Vendors aside, anything in print has more sway than a blog. At least to someone who doesn't know the author. I didn't get a response last time I tried to contact them about writing an article, which is unusual.

It isn't bad as a mode of free advertising for you, it's just an impossible thing to finance these days and is obsolete- not to mention kills the environment (along with all the crap Iowa State mails me). This is an intricate sport. I feel you can't teach me drills for the QB in the wing-t without me reading it, seeing it done in a drill and done in game film, and trying it out. Otherwise it's too open for interpretation and I could totally screw it up (and still might even with all that)... I may be in the minority needing some diversified learning.

I've never signed up
Roughly every other month one is sent to the school on my name
It feels like it's a 2:1 ratio of pages of ads to pages of writing
And every article seems like "insert fancy name here" will help you win games
And it's 90% blah blah blah and 10% good stuff
I'll glance at it when it comes in the mail and then toss it
I try to have as little paper in my life as possible Paper to me is like fooseball to bobby boucher's mom... The devil

I just realized this week that I haven't received any issues since Spring 2015. Agree with all the posts ^. Very inconsistent and beginning to become repetitive. Still liked getting it to read some of the articles.

Haha Iowa state and Missouri send out the most stuff ever. I bet those 2 combine for more than all the other d1s put together!

Those schools aren't going to get any kid from the Southeast unless they're a knocked kneed cross eyed and covered in chiggers. Their fishing. Our school is is well known academically. One of the top public schools in the nation. We also are the inner city school for our county.... huge dynamic in our population. We get Ivy League letters to kids that are in remedial classes.

Iowa State needs athletes. They need football athletes. The Southeast is full of those kids they need. I've never had even a third string long snapper that boasted about how they were going to Iowa State and be the big dog. I've had kids that had no chance grade wise and needed the legit MidWest JUCO route to get them to the next level and they couldn't see being in Kansas. Those places are not on the "SEC TV Package".
Is it regional bias, hale yes. Point is, you've got to cast your bait where the fish might bite.

Anybody ever notice how all of Dale Baskett's stuff was the same. Paragraph upon paragraph about what you need to do in very general (no detail) terms, and little to no direct usable information. A lot of "here is how I coach speed training", without ever telling us what he does to teach speed. Oh yeah, you can go sign up and pay for his wisdom.....
