Here is a rant because of the recent post’s that I have read in regards to massive offensive install ideas (2 that were locked) and the idea that you are not needing ‘Good’ lineman to run an option based offense. First of all; in the military when you say things that are as ill-educated as these were we use a phrase; ‘Haze yourself’. So let’s start this rant. First of all, stick to what you know. You will never hear me posting about an air raid offense, or RPO’s or anything I have zero conceptual idea about. Those of us that run an option based offense look at those of you that think ‘Good’ lineman to run the system are not required like you have never seen a football game…ever. Lineman are essential regardless of system or style of offense that you prefer. Secondly, in order to run the option in today’s day in age against these new style defenses’ with everyone moving and stemming, they need to talk. They need to talk, be physical and understand what is going on. So because you feel they are not Alabama’s O-line that they are not good; you sir have zero conceptual validation of any and all football. Is a neurosurgeon less than a power lifter? I’ll take the surgeon any day. There’s a reason he makes a hell of a lot more yearly; He’s smart. As far as face-melting playbooks; STOP. Coach what you know. If you have some playbook that you have created with every play ever vs every defense. That’s great for you; will your athletes pick it up as quick? Can they master them? Why do you have so many? Are you aware that throughout a season you will use maybe 30-45 plays consistently; if that? In my offensive scheme (Flexbone based ISV) I have ISV, Midline, Down, Toss, And Counter with a few passes sprinkled in there. Kids master the blocking adjustments a hell of a lot better and execute better if they rep each play multiple times. Dan Gable has this great quote ‘A good wrestler drills a technique until he gets it right; A great wrestler drills it until he cannot get it wrong!’ Pretty damn good if you ask me. He only won National titles at Iowa and Olympic gold medals; I would take heed to his advice. Now as far as youth goes. Why is everyone worried about the new fad with 6th graders. Teach them the basics! Help them be better at the game of football. This teaches them life lessons. You shouldn’t be worried about winning so much that your sacrificing their learning of the game for a win or two. Blocking and tackling…Teach that. Now RPO’s; Not the inside veer reverse pass. Kids today are more advanced than most of us here were when we were their age; but the mental capabilities are still massively under advanced. If you think kids in college or high school have trouble with multiple reads in the span of 2-3 seconds how do you think 6-12 year olds are handling it along with everything else going on in their lives? I know this was lengthy but here is the deal. 1. Coach what you know…nothing more nothing less. 2. Stop having the most complex offense anyone has ever seen. You’re going nowhere fast. Ask any of the seasoned coaches here. 3. Teach kids the game; that is your job. You are an educator; not a win’s collector at the youth level. If you want to collect meaningful wins. Perfect your craft and work to the high school level.

That being said I think you will find that most of the regulars on here agree with you for the most part. The threads you are referencing are ones that tend to show up from time to time from young guys looking to change the game or something.

Breaking up the rant is only going tondraw out someone yelling to quit posting 100 different things coach. And when your ranting I doubt that we treat as if we are doing it on a type writter with..start rant.."break"...continue rant.."break "...finish rant "break". And as far as the soap box video...coach im only saying what everyone was thinking

Maybe just you could just not read the posts about RPOs and facemelters, just keep on scrolling down the page until you see something that suits your fancy?
Really no need to give yourself carpeltunel from writing a "rant" that tells everyone what they should or shouldn't be interested in.
If I don't want to read about rip/liz banjo busters I keep scrolling till I find a post Im interested in.

I've never heard the phrase "haze yourself." Can't imagine that being acceptable.

To be clear, it's not that your post didn't have any merit, that phrase just jumped out at me as something that is never heard of at all, and I've gotta think that's not something that would be allowed in general conversation. Maybe it's an NCM thing, maybe it's a nationality thing.

This is a great board, and one of the greatest most well-maintained coaching resources available.
But, what you are bringing attention to has been going on since 2005 and isn't going to change any time soon. You need to develop skills to weed through the frequent annoying foolishness (RPOs, facemelters, Mabel banjo coverages, unstoppable Double Wings that Chuck Norris couldn't defend, triangle defenses, INNOVATIVE THOUGHTS that will change the future of humanity, and schemes designed for paraplegic blind nuns to be successful) and filter down to some of the really REALLY good stuff.
Facemelters, by their very nature, are gonna want to talk about melting faces. Even they have a home here. Just chuckle, roll your eyes and keep moving.

Don't know whether OP was great or not.
When I see a BIG block of text like that (especially white font on black background), not broken up into paragraphs containing different thoughts on same topic, I don't even try to read it.
So "style" is self-defeating.

Loch is correct. If you're not a Mod you don't have to read it. I go back and forth. I remember being 20, in my dorm, with my Mac drawing plays thinking how awesome it was. Now I know better.

Or marrying the first girl that slips him the tounge in chula vista.

Coach, it wasnt that im somearching them out or not weeding them out, it just seems that they are in every post that i read. Granted i dont have a wide variety of post that i like to look at such as spread shotgun or pro style attacks they do seem to be everywhere and it becomes irritating after the 4th or 5th instance.

there is a difference between "good linemen" and linemen that are good at what you ask them to do. when the majority of people think of good linemen, 185 pound kids don't come to mind. That being said, we all know there are plenty of us out there that don't have one prototypical lineman type kid in our entire program. I've been there and done that. What I did have were 5 fullback type kids that would absolutely saw you in half. they were athletes and technique perfect, and they did exactly as they were taught. they weren't "good linemen", but they sure were good athletes that played the line, and were very effective. So while there are some slaps on here that have no clue at all what they're talking about, I'll say that by my own definition of a good lineman (big, strong, quick, smart), you don't necessarily need them to run an option attack, or any attack for that matter. I'd much rather have the athletic smart kids than fat, sloppy and can't move.
