Had an idea and figured I'd throw it out here and see if anyone has experience with it.
We are a large high school with 3 middle schools that feed into us. We also have a two week fall break that falls at the end of the middle school football season. My thought is to compile an "all star" team from all three middle schools. This team would be open to anyone who played at our middle schools who came to practice. The practices would be at the high school run by Frosh and Varsity Coaches with help from the Middle School coaches. I figured it would be a good way to pull them into the program.
I haven't worked out any of the details, which there are obviously many (what time to practice, who to play, equipment issues, etc. to the point of being almost endless) but has anyone done this or anything like it in the past and willing to offer some advice.

So it ends up being an invite - only camp. Probably be a hurdle or two, but you could get it done. One suggestion...possibly choose enough kids for 2 teams and play eachother.
You need a plan for the non-all stars. If you run a summer camp for all players, then having an additional elite camp will be easier to sell since everyone is offered something.

Pretty sure he indicated that it would be open to anyone who showed up from the feeders, so the exact opposite of invite only
I do like the idea of fielding 2 teams and having a game if possible. Maybe the HS seniors act as coaches, coordinators with the HS coaches overseeing. Good way to get the programs inter-acting.

Why is it being called an all star team because now that I read it right, it's not an all star team at all. It's extra practice for any kid interested...which is great. It's a camp though, not an all star team. How is this any different from every other HS sponsored youth camp? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using proboards

There is an association bylaw in our state that says one your season is over, you can not practice until the open off season window.
Basically it is to prevent someone who got knocked or of the first round from practicing through the playoffs. Hoarder it would also apply to the sub varsity yams as well.

It might have to be organized as a non-school, club type team. They have a couple of tournaments around here in the middle to end of November for youth league and all star teams to play in. I've looked at taking some of mine that are age eligible and entering a team, but would have to do it outside of the school umbrella and haven't looked at what it would take.

Or when their season is over their season can be over and they can be kids, maybe have some time off before basketball or weights or whatever is next.
