www.cnn.com/2016/02/17/health/financial-incentive-exercise-goals/?iid=ob_homepage_showcase_pool-test&iref=obnetworkThis concept is interesting to me. We have had a standing rule that if you make 90% of the offseason workouts, you automatically dress for the varsity game. Should we phrase it everyone dresses, unless you miss 10% of the workouts, then it is the coaches decision? As the strength coach, I kind of want to experiment with this. We have pretty good attendance, but their are a couple key guys that are inconsistent that i want to get on board. I want to reset the goal month to month. You are allowed no absences period, for any reason "excused" or not. I want to give everyone an awesome perk that you lose if you miss a day. What type of perk would your guys hate to lose?

W/out having read the study, it seems fairly straightforward. The fear of losing an incentive that's already been granted was significantly more compelling than the lessening of a promised, future payout. In other words, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. In your case, I would think that the most compelling form of incentive would be to hand out game jerseys, then rescind them as players miss workouts.

Interesting...
Kind of like telling all your students that they have an "A" the first day of class and all they have to do is keep it.

Incentives our guys hate to lose? Easy for us: the new helmets and pads we get every year. Summer attendance (weight room/ team camp/ 7 on 7) is the criteria and the order for getting equipment. You want the new stuff? Show up. Then, if there is a tie (and their often is), we go by grade levels.
Our HC has started allowing returning players to "lock in" their jersey numbers from year to year: if they make the attendance mark. We had a junior last year who was #7. Had the cool wristbands, socks, and even shoe decals with #7 ready to go. He didn't make attendance mark. #7 went to a sophomore who did. I have to admit, seeing those shoes in practice everyday made me smile a little bit.
