Does anybody have any experience doing this? If so, what does it entail?
Thanks.

Contact Dave Cisar at _. He's done it twice and has written about it extensively. In fact, I think there is a free download on this subject on his website.

I was under the impression that Dave had started youth football organizations, and not specifically youth "feeder" programs. I do think there could be a difference.

Good point - I was focused on the "start of youth program" part and didn't really pay attention to the "feeder" part, although I suspect most of what needs to be will be the same - there would just be some differences in focus and priorities, I would think.

Does anybody have any experience doing this? If so, what does it entail? Do you also have control of the team or teams it's supposed to feed? I was involved in such an attempt, and I could try to put you in touch with the guy who was in charge. It was a youth team to feed his teen & adult programs in the same club.
If it's a matter of you independently trying to start a feeder program to another program, unbidden, that'd be another thing.

IS there a Youth Program already? If there is already a youth program going, why not build a relationship with them? So your value, work with the coaches. Most youth programs want see the value in having a close relationship with the HS coach. Only problem I see is if the program already feeding you is run by a bunch of idiots like those Friday Night Tykes coaches....then your screwed and you need to start a new program...

We do it in our town. My HC meets with the head coaches of the youth program once or twice over the summer and then every other week once the season starts. Our verbiage and philosophies are the same. We just modify techniques and game planning as the players get older and stronger. Once Freshmen get to us they understand the main parts of our offense and their rules and responsibilities.
Defensively is a little different. Since we see a lot more passing at our level than the youth we kind of let them do what works. We just want their 7-8th graders to understand our basic stunts and coverages. Also we want our shell to have good fundamental techniques in man, press man and zone. We let them run anything from 5-3 to 3-5 as long as it is working, it translates and the kids are having fun.
