We usually go light monday through thursday and give them friday off. To those of you that this applies to, what is your bye week schedule?

Monday-JV game, varsity guys lift then go home Tuesday- no practice for anyone, coaches meet and game plan Wednesday-practice (about 2 hours) - kicking game, 75% offense, 25% defense Thursday-same as Wednesday only time for offense and defense is flipped Friday-sometimes no practice, sometime just a weight room workout Saturday-no practice

We take Monday and Friday off. We go light Tuesday-Thursday. We sit out any players that are banged up, give our back-ups more reps, run more, and we start put-in for next week's opponent. We also cut practice back 30 minutes each day. We would have one day of offense, one day of defense, and one day of defense, offense, and special teams.

This is nearly identical to what we did last year.

I am wondering if where the bye week falls into your schedule affects the practice structure? I could see an bye week earlier in the season being utilized for a bit more physical and fundamentally focused practice as opposed to one later in the season.

I could see an bye week earlier in the season being utilized for a bit more physical and fundamentally focused practice as opposed to one later in the season. It definitely makes a difference. Early in the season we're still looking for players plus we're still working hard on technique. An early season bye is just an extension of 2-a-days. Sometimes we have an intra-squad scrimmage on Friday (Not too long because the coaches will be going out to scout). A late season bye is a delicate situation. You want to give them (And the coaches) some time off but if you go too easy you risk having the kids decide that that they're tired of football. It's a tough call deciding how to balance resting them and keeping them engaged.

It's different for us, when we have had an early season bye it's usually been after 1 or 2 games, we have gone pretty hard during those weeks and ended them with an extended scrimmage on Friday. When we've had them later in the season we did the same thing others have said, cut practice back about 30 minutes but keep the same intensity and start working on the next opponent's base stuff. We've taken Friday off completely in those late season bye weeks.
