Don't waste the money! www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3445064/ Consistent level 1 evidence is lacking to suggest that bracing prevents injury or decreases injury severity. A single randomized controlled study supported bracing.18 The other studies1-3,8,11,12,17 were lower levels of evidence and had biases that influenced their conclusions and generalizability. Data do suggest that in the high-risk positions of offensive and defensive line, linebacker, and tight end, bracing may be effective in both preventing and decreasing severity of MCL injuries in the college athlete. Medical evidence does not support the routine use of bracing in high school football players. Some data suggest that when confounders are controlled, players with body sizes similar to those of high school athletes have fewer and less severe MCL injuries with bracing.

According to this datum point, there should be a cut-off point regarding size, since the majority of high school athletes wouldn't meet the minimum standard requirement necessary for use of a brace. Also, as noted in the last sentence, the findings suggested that use of a brace might be beneficial.

If you have bowed legs some of those studies actually showed that you pretension the ligament and predispose to MCL ligament injuries.

Those braces are just as beneficial for players as having them wear pink socks/wristbands during October...

Yeah in college out coach had this bright idea about braces for linemen. I dont know if the tech has improved at all but back in the early 2000s stock knee-braces hurt. I was lucky that my aunt worked at Breg and I had a custom knee brace for my already messed up right knee and was able to get one for my left.

I must be in the minority here. We started bracing our entire o line in 2014. We had lost a starting lineman in two of the previous 3 seasons to knee injuries in practice. In 2014 we bought 12 hinge knee braces for 40 bucks each from our med supply company where we get our training supplies. This past year we bought 12 more and were able to brace the starting o Line, d line and some of our jv line. We go live very intense scrimmages every Wednesday, where we had lost guys previously. In the past 2 years we have played 27 varsity games and haven't had any knee injuries. We have had some moments in practice where I was worried, but the braces seem too collapse the entire leg when impacted from the side rather than letting it flex and collapse in the middle. We are a wing t team and we have tons of down blocks where legs can get crossed up and blocked into from the side. We are a small school but based on our experience the last 2 seasons it's 500 bucks that we will keep spending each year. We collect them each year and are building up a nice supply.

Maybe we just play a different level of game than you guys, but I've never had a lineman tear any ligaments playing for me.(Quickly knocks on nearest wood). I think I've only had one player in total in 15 years.
Weird.
On the topic at hand- If you can tear something with a brace on, is there really a reason to wear a brace. Kid in college wore one all the time and still found a way to do the holy trinity. I've always kind of thought they were pointless since then.
