I'd love to do that BUT........Unless it is accepted by enough people, you risk losing your job.

I'd love to do that BUT........Unless it is accepted by enough people, you risk losing your job. Why? If you practiced one day without helmets why would that threaten your job? as is now many teams do not tackle to the ground at all in practice through the season, im sure there is still much you can do one day without helmets and still be productive

I'd be concerned about players having facial injuries without helmets on.

I'd be concerned about players having facial injuries without helmets on. this is what has stopped me from working pass pro drills with no helmet i have seen some colleges work pass pro drills in just shoulder pads, really force the OL not to lunge but to sit back, get the head back but i think society is probably too lawsuit happy for us HS level guys to get away with this drill

That's what I'm saying as well. I don't want to just practice w/o helmets. I want to do things that make them adjust their techniques because they don't want their heads and face smashed. Too much litigation risk at this time.(and I'm as contrarian as they get but I like my job)

By the way, I apologize for putting this in the "General Offense" category. Meant to put it in the "General Category"

In the video about New Hampshire, they're just tackling bags without a helmet. I doubt they're working on tackling going live without helmets.

It sounds like they have a list of drills they do sans helmet, but are unwilling to make those public yet....I'm guessing they are nothing earth shattering. I imagine they are very similar to the Seahawks drills and other basic drills that most of us do...just without helmets.

I've never had a facial injury when practicing without a helmet.
I'd rather go full pads and no helmet than full go with JUST a helmet. My chest was purple constantly during mini-camps from taking helmets to the sternum in 1/1 Pass Pro and Team.

Has anyone heard of or participated in a Spring Rugby League? Thoughts, pros/cons...

Has anyone heard of or participated in a Spring Rugby League? Thoughts, pros/cons... Do you mean having football players participate in a rugby league?

Hey everyone.....just for house keeping sake I am going to move this thread to the GENERAL BOARD as opposed to where it is now in the General Offense section.

Yes, High School football players competing in a Spring Rugby League. They would do this while competing in track. No background or true thoughts about this topic. Was approached about it and thought I would get some thoughts. Thanks!

Thanks! we have an AWESOME rugby program here. starts as soon as the football season ends, and ends right around the time that spring football starts. as for the "no helmet" practice. i would be all for it...except i think insurance would be an issue if a kid DID get hurt....
