NDSU hasn't won five national championships in a row because of how the Gophers recruit. This thread is about NDSU, not how the Gophers recruit. Yes, but it appears that (according to those who live around the program) one of the factors fueling NDSU's success is that they are playing FCS football with kids that some seem to think a Big 10 program should be recruiting.

I would tell you that the assertion that NDSU wins because they get Big Ten kids is subjective. Billy Turner was a big prospect and but it seems they get these guys and develop them. Zach Vraa is big ten height weight speed? Can't really See Ohio State swinging through Bismark once a year, just because Wentz took them to state. I don't like Cookies, I am chips kind of guy. and I would have gone with cool story bro instead of the cookie

The Minnesota sucking is a real factor in NDSU's success. Also the fact that there is only 1 D1 in Wisconsin is a factor. A lot of quality football players are left with the choice of walking on for Bucky or taking the scholarship to Fargo. Some decide they don't want to live in Fargo and end up at Whitewater or Oshkosh or Duluth.
You guys have to quit this BS with meshparker. I cannot stand to read anymore of it.

Agap beat me to the punch here. I expected to get on Huey and read about Power to the weakside or how they pursue like a herd is Bison to the ball. Instead I read a rant about the Gophers? Get the thread back on track. I think the OP was looking at resources. In my experience with the NDSU staff, whether it was Bohl's staff or the current on they are very willing to help out. If you are in the midwest you should try to attend their clinic. I have never been there myself but every year I talk to guys who go and they say it is best. I am probably going this year.

I coach at a Minnesota high school closer to Fargo than Minneapolis. I have attended a spring practice at both universities for at least the past 5 years and am a fan of both the Bison and Gophers. I have also coached one player who recently finished up at the U and a couple who played for the Bison. To the original posters question on resources available I am not sure if anything is out there for purchase? If you ever have a chance to visit with a Bison coach, I think you would come away with something similar as this. Offensively, they are ALL about A-gap power. To them it is not a play but a way of life! They obviously do a lot of other things but A-gap power sets everything up. They practice very hard and physical all season long. Defensively, they consider themselves a Tampa 2 team. The secret to their recipe, however, is probably their S&C coach. He is a great guy to listen to. I don't know if he has any unique workout routines vs. any other S&C coach but he is in those players lives full time the entire time they are there. He knows if they are or aren't eating right, if they are or aren't partying too much, if they are having girl or school problems etc.. Along with pushing them extremely hard. They obviously hit a lot of homeruns in recruiting and to me at QB and D-line in particular. They use their summer camp, like a lot of other schools, very well. I would say they get about 800 kids there every summer.
As for the U of M, I am a huge Kill fan and hope Claeys keeps it moving forward. I do think they got a little too specific with height, arm length, weight and so on in recruiting. Probably have missed on some kids that do end up at NDSU because of this.

The system @ NDSU is not complicated. They did not reinvent the wheel. They recruit well, the university is committed to winning with more than words.

NDSU has a great strength and conditioning program. They do an exceptional job of developing their players. And when you walk into their facilities they are better than some group of 5 BSC schools.

Just got home from attending the clinic and watching their practices. As a part of the clinic Coach Kill(this is the second time I have heard him speak and he is really enjoyable to listen to, good story teller and wonderful sense of humor) spoke along with a laundry list of HS coaches. The highlights are watching them practice and watching/listening to their coaches at practices, you get to be right on the field. The OC is also the lead guy of punt team...intensity is an understatement: Tim Polasek The QB coach is Randy Hedberg, former NFL QB, head coach in several places and OC in several places..incredible human being. The RB/TE coach Tyler Roehl has some NFL experience and is as intense as they come.
They double rep a ton of stuff so there is not much standing around if any..kids are very disciplined throughout the entire practice, they truly coached on the run..never talked to just one player while they were standing still.
And as earlier stated the strength coach monitors everything..they know who eats at the cafeteria, they monitor weight, they have little or no wasted time in the weight room and they treat it like an extension of practice. You have a job to do...don't let the Herd down.

I was at the ndsu clinic this weekend as well and have been going to the clinic since 2003. I love how they tie in spring ball with the clinic.
Jerry Kill was awesome on Friday night.
You get a hold of any bison coach he will help you in any way he can.
I have been to every playoff game the last five years they are mind blowing at the end of the season how much better they are than everyone else it's all part of their process

Minnesota's recruiting deficiencies or not, there has to be more to it. There are plenty of FCS schools that get D1 guys--whether transfers or overlooked recruits--that don't win a title, let alone five in a row...

Just out of curiosity any of the HS coaches really impressive to anyone that was at NDSU? I really enjoyed the single wing guys since I have only seen it once since 1988. Also thought the Marshall MN coach was very good.
Always laugh at guys who say they don't have athletes but then talk about their O lineman going to Oregon or Michigan. and the RB is playing for the Gophers. Makes me laugh.

I agree I was impressed with those three as well especially Jed Kennedy From Brookfield central. For me it was the best ndsu clinic in years
