it could be worse i figure. our basketball coah has a history of colon cancer in his family. well twice a year he gets the finger and once a year he gets a colonosicpay(spelled that wrong) where they send a camera up to look around instead of poking a finger.

Good topic, Airman. I think I read somewhere that women use about 70% of our health care services. Men definitely need to get physicals every 1-2 years. What should your physical look like?? Height/weight Blood pressure Full blood panel (fasting) EKG (ask for this) Skin check…very impt for coaches! Urinalysis If you have any family history of prostate or colon problems, screening will be imperative and can begin by 40-45 depending on your doctor. Not everything is as invasive as it sounds. It is also important to have yearly dental exams (ideally 2 cleanings per year)…especially if you chew. Check your balls often, or just ask your wife/gf to do it. As coaches, by nature you are proactive…so don’t be reactive when it comes to your health!

51 here and have gone for annual physical every year for the last 20 years. I am a health care professional and have seen many a young man die suddenly so I know better. in fact, last month a basketball coach in our league died from cardiac arrest during practice. he was 51. Coaching does bring on alot of stress and we all know the lack of sleep, nutrition and relaxation that goes along with every football season whether it be a good or bad season.

41 I've done the whole nine yards, including the stress test ( go 0-10 you'll need one too). Didn't like the prostate exam. Plan on going every two years. I don't have a history of cancer in my family.

I never thought of the importance until about two yrs ago, I went to the Doc for some back issues had him look at what I thought was a cold sore on my lip turned out to be skin cancer. It had spread into my lymphnodes in my left side of the neck, we had it all removed I lost 3 cm's of my lower lip. Thought I was cured for this last yr. Now as of today new test have come back and the cancer has returned to my lower lip more involved and a signifiant mass has developed in my right side of the neck possible lymphoma so I would say if you think all is well with your health it is my hope that, that is true. If you want to take a chance, you may find out what you do not want to know. This cancer is a result of too many California sunbaked afternoons on the football field not wearing sunscreen. So guys don't take chances for your kids sake get checked, 20 minuites in the Dr's office is better than counting down the days of your life. I am not sure of my time limit but I'm left with this thought " I'm going skydivin, rocky mountain climbin, 2.7 seconds with an illness that I just can't chew and I'm gonna love deeper and speak sweeter and give forgiveness I've been denyin and someday I hope you get the chance to live like you weren't dyin"

WOW Carson, my prayers are with you. When I hear people say they don't plan on having a regular check-up for a long time I respond saying that they may not need one. No need to do that type of thing on dead people.

As coaches, by nature you are proactive…so don’t be reactive when it comes to your health! i did all those tests. they did height and weight then figured out the BMI. full blood panel one nice thing then can do the check the prostrate is the psa blood test. they can watch the count. doc told me if tyou live to be 80 yrs old you will experience some prostrate complications. a enlarged prostrate is the most common, but cancer is easy to cure if caught early. other wise it becomes very deadly. now a enlarged prostrate does not mean you have prostrate cancer also. your prostrate can start enlarging at any point in your life as well. I also did a stress test,. it is for your heart, you run on a tredmill for a period of time. i started at the request of my doctor. i was 5-10 240 2 years ago and now I am 5-10 and 170. i was 5-10 200 when I left college. weight sneaks up on you. I weight myself now each morning and I watch what I eat. my new fitness goal is I am looking into martial arts. most likely tae kwon do as I like the competitive sport aspect. i also like the code martial artists live by. for the last few years I had my blook work done but never a extensive physical. great thing is my health care coverage picksup one full one each year including a cat scan. he also did and showed my the extensive testical test each male should do each month. testical cancer is a big killer among men. you know why woman consume so much health care, if you are on soem for of birth control, they make you go in a get a exam each year before the will renew your prescription for birth control . also found out the patch is the most effective from of female birth control. has a one pecent failure rate compard to 3 to 20 percent on other methods. this is why my sister told me. she goes in every year.
