We have a head coach plus 7 full time assistants. 4 of those 8 do JV/frosh as well. We are a private school in the smallest classification in our state.
We also have two volunteers that don't coach but do other misc. stuff...get back coach, blow the horn at practice, greet officials, etc.

14 coaches - 8 paid - 3 levels (9th/JV/V)
1400 kids, 100 football players. We split duties- some varsity coaches double as jv coaches and 9th coaches. Parts of practice we're all together, at other times we're separated.

We are a 1A school with an enrollment around 340 in grades 9-12, we also have grades 7-8 on our campus and there are about 160 students in those grades. We have 5 paid coaches in the school. 2 of them for Middle School, and 3 for High School. We also have 2 volunteers that pretty much show up for the games and maybe a few practices here and there. So at the games we have 7 guys on the sideline who look like coaches , but typically at a high school practice we will have 3 coaches: the HC, me, and a basketball coach who came to help us out because his son is playing.

I hear about a lot on sidelines that look like coaches We will have an equipment guy only on Fridays, ball guy, all the trainers from the local juco full time and student , and once playoffs start junior hi coaches that red high school games that are done are on he sidelines too. And of course media people taking photos and what not.
By he way our enrollment is 640ish high school, 70 kids on the team 10-12 another 35 fresh. 8th has usually about 27-36 kids- 4 coaches 1 is also a 7th the rest our head coaches of other sports or assistants 7th 25-35 kids- 3 coaches , 2 of us are varsity

1A school in PA No coaches in the building. HC and 5 assistants we all split money so we get paid something. 2 of the guys do the JV games, we all practice together with a roster of 42. We also have 2 paid middle school coaches who help out on game night with filming and sideline management.

So it seems the more southern states are teachers and coaches with exception of u are the header. And other states might have one "full time" or two that teach also and the others get stipends and have outside jobs?
Is that hard to coordinate summer and spring stuff and clinic schedule ?

It does have its challenges. It is difficult to schedule things during mornings during the summer since 3 of the coaches have day jobs.

We have 660 kids, 30-35 players each on JV & varsity levels. 9 stipends paid by the district. This year I had 8 paid coaches and 1 volunteer that was paid 1/3 of a stipend but had to go volunteer when his family life went downhill and he couldn't be here all the time. No other volunteers. One of the coaches is the weight guy so I had 7 coaches on the field. Paying the weight guy was well worth it, he's getting things going like never before. Only one of us is part of the school system, the DL coach is one of the VP's.
We were split off/def, not JV/var, which worked really well for us. Small rural school in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada in California.

We have 5 paid positions, one of which is the HC and one that's designated as the JVHC. We have no freshman program, just varsity and JV. Our staff consists of ten coaches so, obviously, half are volunteers. Of our staff only two work at the school: The HC, who teaches math, and the ST coach, who's a security officer. I'm retired but the rest of the staff have various and sundry jobs, which makes their availability an issue at times.

We are the largest classification (just got bumped up before the season). There is an HC stipend and 7 assistant stipends. Stipends can be halved if need be. This year we had 9 coaches, HC, 6 Full, 2 Halves. Everyone coached 9-12 (platooned the staff, split the kids 9th and 10-12) and we had 3-4 coaches minimum at every 9th and JV game which we typically play back to back on Saturday. We have only been at this school for one season so there isn't a volunteer base yet.

I believe you have to be a school employee to coach in Texas. Yes you do. At 4A in Texas, Enrollment just over 700. We have 14 HS Coaches, 10 Varsity and 4 Frosh. Varsity position coaches have the JV. We have 3 Jr. High Coaches (Short 1 Coach at JH) All of us are teachers except HC who is Boys AD. Myself and DC teach are assigned to both Jr. High Athletic Periods as well as the High School Athletic Period. We teach a reduced load. We will have about 140 in the program from 9-12 next year.

Do you guys platoon players and coaches? Our varsity coaches coach one side of the ball, but our kids have to play both ways. We don't have enough athletes to two platoon. We are hoping this year to be able to get closer to two platooning. When I was at a 6A school we were true two platoon. Of course we had over 240 kids in the program.
