I'm having a coaches meeting with the varsity staff this week as stuff is fresh on our mind.
Any ideas on what we should discuss would be great?

A good thing to do is have coaches list three things your program does well, three things you need to improve and three things you'd like to try differently/experiment with/etc. I have seen guys compile that info and if you have several coaches doing that you can come up with a pretty good list.

We are having one as well... After last game everyone poured their thoughts out into a google doc. 18 pages worth of thoughts on our season/ program. Needless to say we won't have any issues finding something to discuss at our meeting.

We were 6-4 and lost first round. However, started 5-0 and are mentally weak.

nltdiegoWe review the season, what we did well, what we need to improve on, etc. We then create a plan for the off-season with a schedule, clinics, things we need to improve on and change, etc. I like keysersoze idea as well. We do something similar via a survey.

The best way that I've been apart of is our HC gave out a survey to the position coaches where evaluate ourselves, our position groups, our team overall, and the HC. The HC filled out one about the position coaches and the performance of our position group. It led to some great feedback from the HC and let us give feedback to the HC. The feedback that I gave to HC he really improved on and I thought it was very effective.

I've done it 2 ways and it really depends on the maturity and closeness of your staff. 1. When my staff is close we do a round table meeting where each coach puts down a 1 strength and an improvement for each coach and we share openly 2. Other times I bring them in and do a 1 on 1. Like what others said but I also ask them what they want to coach and what they think there off season would look like

Like stated above, a lot depends of how close your staff is. I like having round table meetings with everyone to discuss off-season schedule, clinic dates, weight room plan, and their ideas on how to improve on certain things. Then meet with coaches one on one to discuss personal things. The more you allow your coaches to be involved and work together, the more successful you will be. After all, you can not win without each other being on the same page.

I will send my coaches an email on Monday asking them to tell me One thing they want to START doing next year. One thing they want to STOP doing next year. One thing they want to CONTINUE doing next year..

In our entire staff meeting, our HC just gave us the lifting schedule, we picked what days assistants could be there, and we discussed what our priorities and approach had to be going into next year with what's returning. We discussed specific kids we wanted to push to be leaders, our specific policies on weight room attendance, and then he took feedback from the other coaches on what else we needed to do. There was a little talk about what clinic we want to try to hit as a staff, but that was it. It was a good, fairly informal meeting.
We'll be tweaking our scheme and shuffling a few guys around on staff as one guy retires, but that'll happen later.

Doing this a bit different this season. Last year we did a group meeting mostly about equipment needs. Then individual meetings with coaches about the season and expectations. This year we had the first meeting same as last year and we are meeting once a month to talk about whatever is on coaches minds. Picking a local place that serves food and each coach is supposed to bring a list of three things they want to know more about discuss. First night was all about the weight room and what we are going to do to maximize that time. Who can do what in the off-season and what the summer is looking like.

I think you do not need to waste time with a venting session, finger pointing and gripe session. Instead, start talking about your identity and personnel and off season commitment, discuss your next schedule etc.

I love the "start, stop, continue" idea! We have always done the Good, Bad, Ugly; but find usually (hopefully) the ugly goes further away each year.

Be wary of how you write a survey. I work for a guy who gives one out to the players, but he phrases all the questions to get the answers that he wants.
