....so far this off-season there has more instances than usual of high school coaches geting a shot at the next level....Bentely from Byrnes, SC just got Presbyterian College...Dodge from Southlake Carroll got North Texas and took both coordinators with him from the high school...Dooley at La Tech? just hired a LA coach....Tulsa hired Blankenship Of Tulsa Union to be on the new staff....my point is that this season it seems like more than usual...I attended the AFCA a few weeks ago and it is amazing to me the utter disdain the college coaches express when they talk about high school coaches making the jump to coordinator or to a head coach....They absolutely can't stand Malzahn or the fact that he seemed to be successful early at Arkansas. But the I heard Bowden and Gagliardi talk during the "Master Coaches" forum (Great if you ever get a chance to go) and the question came up concerning the teaching of tackling and one of them said that they had never taught a single player to tackle. Everyone who came to play for them already could tackle or they wouldn't be there. That got me thinking about some of the jokers that I have tried to teach to be physical or be good tacklers and let me tell you something....high school coaches are working miracles...we've all dealt with kids that would make Vince Lombardi take a day off....I am not trying to classify all college coaches as arrogant but some really are and I would like to see them deal with some of the clowns that I have encountered. So I didn't mean to go up on my soapbox but I just wanted to point out that I sure am rooting for those coaches who have the guts to take a HS coach on staff as a coordinator or those schools that hire one to run the whole show.
