Every year I go back through all of our film and try and figure out some of the things that we might have missed or might not have thought about. Or even things that we might have thought were important at the time, but turned out to be a non-factor.
What are some things that you guys would/do chart that you think are beneficial? I know explosive plays, and points per possession are pretty big now. What are some other things that I might have missed?
Right now I'm working on drives that didn't gain a first down, scoring drives that were 5 plays and under, and drives after a turnover.

I think something that was brought up on the scoop yesterday was genius. I had always discussed the importance of the number of possessions the defense had to defend, but had never statted it. I think this is really telling for a football team when you break it down to the stat of points per possession, when you average number of possessions and points scored.
I also put a lot of emphasis on WAITING to do all of this until the season has worn off when you can objectively break down your films. It has a way of removing you from the game and allowing you to focus on the data, much like an OC calling his offense from the press box as opposed to on the sideline because it removes you from the natural emotion of being close to the game. I usually wait until a month or so has passed. We are emotionally tied to what we do, be it the scheme that we teach, or specific techniques or even play calls at specific times. We will instinctively defend these things to ourselves as long as we are still in the in-season bunker mode.

I'd say the same metric as it always is. Cumulative starts by your offensive line.

Staying on schedule. 1st down plays and penalties are the big ones for us on offense. 3rd and long on defense has been our down fall for years. Every time we lose it seems we give up a 3rd and 18 at some point in thee game.

Everybody's good so winning is a tough.
